"I'll sew your fucking asshole shut and keep feeding ya and feeding ya and feeding ya..."

street fighter 4 hit shelves this past tuesday. i did not find out about that until midnight of that same day.

i wish id have actually found out about it earlier, so that i could have planned ahead and decided whether or not i want to get into it.

i did a reasonable ammount of reading up on it recently, and its good that the game turned out to be pretty deep. unlike smash bros brawl, which turned out to be an abysmal failure for previous smash bros players. to this day, ive only played two rounds of brawl.

im going to ask simon if he wants to be my SF4 practice partner. if he says no, then there's really no reason to get it. if i play it, id want to be at least casually competitive.

i need a game to feel competitive about, and magic takes a serious toll on my empty wallet. SF4 is the logical solution. it wont be as unforgiving as starcraft2 or have as difficult a learning curve like blazblue, because of the de-emphasis of long, complex combos.

i doubt id ever qualify for EVO, but honestly competition is the only thing that seems interesting to me nowadays in terms of playing a lot. i absolutely refuse to constantly play 10 hour long mindless sessions, especially after WoW.

simon has a strange gaming complex in that sometimes he really hates losing, so he just gives up. which is understandable i guess. but at the same time im not sure if he actually wants to take a game seriously. it might be because he really hates meeting people that are extremely geeky, and the nerdy shit they do. i think that was the sole reason he didnt get into competitive magic with me. the one time we went to a store tournament we met some pretty stupid geeky kids. i personally ignore idiots who have the tenacity to make geeky jokes/references every other sentence. after all, i did put up with coran for almost three years.

luckily, the competitive fighting scene is more mature. at least i think so; ive been known to be wrong on certain things before.

seattle has a decent fighter scene, and most of the locals visit gameworks in downtown. the bad news, i think, is that tournaments are held out of city. like in BC or something, which is stupid. that, and there arent any bi-weeklies or anything yet.

if i get serious, i might hold bi-weekly SU tournaments next quarter and advertise them on shoryuken, along with the gaming club. but like i said, that all depends on if i get a practice partner.

another serious tidbit is that if i buy it, im forced to get it for the 360. which is bad, because the controllers are terrible for fighting games. its pretty much unanimous that the xbox controllers are made of death and cancer, and that you should steer clear of them if you play a fighting game.

good news is that madcatz specifically designed a controller for this release. they also made an affordable and awesome arcade stick ($80). unfortunately, however, they're all on backorder. probably wont be seeing them until next month.

if i were superstitious, id take that as a sign not to get into it. however, im either stubborn or blind and its my american right to be that way. so dammit, if i secure simon as my partner then im definitely getting this.

p.s. fuck world of warcraft.
