FFXI is uninteresting at the moment. Got a nice double Forager Mantle drop doing the Antlion in Sheep's Clothing ENM as Xeres and got WAR to 60. Nothing else new, really. And no, I did not fall off the mountain. Bastards.
Work, however, has been rather entertaining. The employee evaluations that Chuck has been putting off for the past three months were finally completed and the results were humorous, if not unexpected. When reading the following, bear in mind, Chuck stated beforehand that the most any of us would get is a 25 cent raise. A quick synopsis of each of our evaluations:
Adam - 55 / 80
Pros - "Adam can be relied upon for almost anything."
Cons - "Adam will often spend too much time planning things out before he does them."
Recommendation - $0.25/hr raise
Employee's comments/reaction - Best score of all employees, nothing particularly bad said about me, and the highest raise Chuck said would be given. I decided not to say anything, signed it, and went on my merry way.
Lee - 53 / 80
Pros - "Lee is a go-getter!"
Cons - Left blank.
Recommendation - $0.25/hr raise
Employee's comments/reaction - Lee hasn't seen his evaluation yet, but I can't imagine he'll be too disappointed.
Amanda - 51 / 80 (Was a 53, but Chuck redid her entire evaluation and lowered it.)
Pros - "Amanda will take special projects into her own hands and ensure they are completed."
Cons - Something about being too chatty.
Recommendation - $0.25/hr raise
Employee's comments/reaction - Amanda didn't write anything or say anything to Chuck, but she was furious. Of all of us, she needs the raise the most as she is moving out of the house and a 25 cent raise is nothing really more than a slap in the face.
Stacey - 38 / 80
Pros - Left blank
Cons - "Stacey spends too much time standing up at the register." (She was hired as a cashier, wtf?)
Recommendation - $0.10/hr raise
Employee's comments/reaction - She thought the comment about standing at the register was ridiculous, understandably, especially since when he showed it to her, she was up on a ladder putting merchandise on the shelf.
Michelle - 37 / 80
Pros -
Cons - "Often gives customers false information based on assumptions instead of helping customers find the correct answer. Has issues with insubordination."
Recommendation - $0.10/hr raise
Employee's comments/reaction - She was rather disappointed in the evaluation. In her opinion, the issues with insubordination all revolved around Kyle giving unreasonable orders and then yelling at her when she states she is unable to. She also feels that since she is interning at a vet's office and plans on going to veterinary school, she knows the answers to people's questions, for the most part.
Kyle - 31 / 80
Pros - Left blank.
Cons - "Kyle is unable to find tasks for himself or others on his own."
Recommendation - No raise
Employee's comments/reaction - After being shown his evaluation, Kyle and Chuck went into the back room and discussed it for nearly half an hour. After this discussion, Kyle wrote his opinion. He felt that Chuck was being "strict, but fair", that the source of all his problems at the store originated from Michelle and myself. Michelle is a smart-alecky kid who refuses to listen to orders and I am a self-important prick who is always trying to tell him he is wrong. Because obviously, this evaluation is about how we have wronged him, not about his performance and ability to deal with problems.
So anyways, today I go into work and Chuck is not there. He had left early, he was feeling rather sick. I'm closing with Stacey, but Chuck calls the store around 6:30pm. He reminds me that Stefanie, our District Manager, will be in our store tomorrow. He then follows up by asking me to come in an hour early tomorrow to "discuss something". He very quickly follows it with informing me that Glenn will not be coming back to our store. The manager at our Alpharetta store had been fired the previous day, and Glenn was given the manager position within a few hours of that. This immediately set off a few alarms in my head. Chuck had been refusing to hire anyone new or promote a new assistant manager until it was certain that Glenn would not be coming back. With this news confirming that he would not be coming back, Chuck is now in need of a new assistant manager.
Later in the evening, around 7:15, I was contemplating calling Glenn at home to ask him what was going on and his take on the situation. I decided to wait slightly longer, I didn't want to interrupt dinner. The wait was apparently a good idea, since shortly after, Glenn walked in the front door with his wife and daughter. Long conversation cut short, Glenn is now store manager in Alpharetta, but does not like the assistant manager there. When asked by Stefanie who he would like to bring into that store to work for him, my name was the first mentioned.
As I'm looking at the situation now, I see two possibilities. Either I will become assistant manager at my current store, and Amanda will end up quitting in August. She has already stated that she is quitting if she cannot justify the commute after moving to Kennesaw. The second possibility, and the one I'm shooting for, is that I move to the Alpharetta store to work as Glenn's assistant while Amanda gets promoted to Chuck's assistant, which would cause her to continue working there. The trick will be convincing Stefanie tomorrow that it's in the best interest of the company to move me to Alpharetta and promote Amanda. It's better for the company to have two sets of Manager/Assistant who have proven themselves to work well together rather than have me as Chuck's assistant and leaving Glenn to search for a new assistant blindly.
Let's see what happens tomorrow! :D
