A couple of people have written to me to ask how things with Abby are going. And I'll just say--like usual. Much ado over nothing. We had several talks that day about what happened to that boy, and I don't think she understood the horrible-ness of that situation fully. She called the mom "rude". I tried again to explain how I really felt when I got angry with her or disciplined her (which has never gone beyond spanking, and that is rare even), and I think she understood things a little better. I guess. Mike and I talked to her some more once he came home from work, I don't know if it helped at all. I can only always hope (and wonder) with Abby, she has such a flair for the dramatic, and is so emotional and defensive I seriously never know what comes out of her mouth next. Sometimes it's hilarious, sometimes horrific, like the other day. Her comment still disturbs me, and has affected just about every word that has come out of my mouth when I'm talking to her since. Alex understood the situation much clearer than Abby and was upset she would ever say such a thing to me. Hopefully that topic has been put to rest now.
I always knew parenting wasn't a popularity contest, and your kids will in fact hate you from time to time. And as a wise person has said before, it's how they process the hate that counts. I don't mind Abby hating me here and there, that comes with parenting, but I certainly don't want her ever afraid of me. Now, when she's a teenager, I do want the boys she dates to be afraid of me. For sure. :)
And as for my other daughter, she is getting big and doing really well. She is certainly used to being held, and if layed down for more than 3.4 seconds will start wailing like a baby left out in the rain. :( She is so precious and squeezy and cute, it's my own fault she reacts that way because I don't ever want to sit her down. And my house reflects that, unfortunately.
And why the *&^%$ wasn't The Office on last night?? I was looking forward to "the Dundies" all over again. Shee-it. For all of those who haven't seen the British Office, do so immediately, it's classic. We have watched all episodes via Netflix and I am seriously considering purchasing them.
