long time no talk

So I have this awesome Kitchenaid Stand Mixer (in cranberry, if you were wondering). I want to bake things and learn to use it.

We made ice cream a couple of weeks ago from a kit, which was really awesome.

I know it does all this awesome stuff, but I don't know where to start. (Mason, I am looking at you for advice here, babe.)

Thoughts?

I recommend bready things. We got a stand mixer too (ours is black) and its great to make bread dough. So far I've made pretzels and syrian bread and they were teh yum! :)

Dude, chocolate chip cookies. With a KitchenAid Stand Mixer (tm), I can go from hunger to in-the-oven in under 10 minutes. I use the recipe on the Nestle bag, but with 1c. brown sugar and 1/2 c. white, a bit of almond extract, and 1/2 c. crumbled bacon.

Also, homemade marshmallows are kind of insane.

Yes, make the world famous (or at least food blog famous) NY Times chocolate chip cookies. You will not regret it.

I also recommend using it to make homemade whipped cream. Just set it and forget it, and bingo! You can use it to make butter, too.

the kitchenaid makes brownies/cookies/cake/biscuits/muffins ridiculously easy. as in, by the time you stop thinking about making them.. they are already in the oven. it would be awful at pie crust though.. so its not the perfect tool.

it is good for whipping eggs for meringues, so its not useless for pie *) beaten egg whites also make tasty tasty souffles, mousse, etc.

its also pretty fantastic for whipped cream and frosting. though i've totally made sweet butter before by forgetting about the whipped cream, so don't wander off *) if you ever want to make royal icing (the super sweet, kinda crunchy icing that makes the really elaborate fancy cake decorations) you kinda have to use a kitchenaid, it wants 10 minutes of mixing!

i hear it also does bread and (with the proper attachment) pasta, but i haven't gotten past dessert *)

I am getting one of those, probably today (if I get my ass off the couch...)
my dad had a kitchenaid growing up, and I have such fond memories of him using it to make mashed potatoes. i am very excited about making mashed potatoes! Generally, you can use it for anything that needs mixing...make some hummus! or some bread!
ok, 'i'm no help
