proud homeowner

We made an offer on Saturday. They made a counter-offer today. I think we are about to accept it.

Our very own house! I think my brain hurts. I'm so excited and so nervous. We're about to start hemorrhaging money now, or so I hear.

Congratulations! I get the sense that the time in between the offer and the closing is downright nervewracking. (Or, perhaps I'm viewing it that way because Rachel and I are on the other side of the transaction.)

You guys are selling for the move to Chi-town? I don't think I knew you owned your place. That's rad.

Yeah, basically from now until August 3rd or whenever we actually close and get the keys and can have the traditional pizza-and-a-six-pack first dinner at home is going to be CRAZY.

We did build in a lot of buffer -- we'll get the keys the first Monday in August if all goes well and I'll have the rest of that month to move my stuff, so no rushing. I really want to move smartly this time.

Yeah, we didn't look for very long. The market is kind of awesome right now. Thanks! I'm excited to paint and put holes wherever I want and all of that.

After we closed before we moved in, I had to rip of a 6 foot piece of trim to fit our new refrigerator in the kitchen. Home Improvement!

Congratulations! Welcome to a brave (but fun) new world.

Also, re hemorrhaging money: Yes. Start a money market account or some such now and put funds in it regularly and name it the Homeowner's Midnight Thousand-Dollar Disaster Fund, because you will have those. I speak from experience.

Ohhhhh, yeah. Good idea.

Mike's dad was commenting that we are planning a wedding AND buying a house at the same time, and how stressed we must be. I think we need to add "having a baby", "going to grad school", and "family member sick" and we'll hit the stress lotto.

Whoo-hoo!!! Congrats. Actually, having a baby is all you need to add to hit the stress lotto. I closed on my house last May, got married in March (though we did it small and plan to have the Big Party next year), and we're expecting in October. Gin and denial are featuring prominently in my life right now (which is not to say that I'm not bouncing off the walls with excitement; it's just that it doesn't quite all seem real yet). Having a house, though sometimes a pain, is wonderful. It's the difference between having a place to stay and having a home.

Ha! The stress trifecta, man. Enjoy that gin!

And I'm excited, because it means I finally have a reason (excuse) to unpack the boxes I've been carrying around forever, if for no other reason than to toss what's inside and move on. I also may have offered to host Thanksgiving at our house this year.
