ETA: SORRY ABOUT THAT BROKEN CUT TAG. I SUCK.
Okay now. Thank you, Pamela! Finally, finally, FINALLY someone says to Sam, "I know you want to do good, but it's not going to work."
I don't know if I ever made it clear that despite my "I don't think Sam's evil" POV, I was willing to believe he was. Because I am. It wasn't that Sam couldn't be corrupted, I just didn't think the show had done a good job of proving that it was inevitable, to the viewer or to Sam. And I also felt that for Sam, no one was acknowledging that he was trying to do good. And because no one was acknowledging that, he wasn't sure if they really understood that when they told him to stop. To him (and a little bit to me, too, because they still haven't answered that not all the special kids turned out bad, but okay, I'm getting over that plot hole), they were just,
"You are bad! You are bad and we are good! Your badness will be the end of you, and our goodness will be our triumph! Bad is bad - good is good! Bad-bad-good-bad! Good-good-bad-good, bad! Good." They just kept saying, "Stop using demon powers. They're bad" If they had said, "Stop using demon powers because it will overwhelm you despite how you're thinking you can control it," I think Sam would have been more willing to listen.
We don't know everything's Ruby said to Sam, but if she said something like, "You're strong. All you want to do is take out Lilith and kill demons. I'll help you. I'll keep it from going too far," well, then? I don't know that Sam ever really got over being suicidal. Ruby got through to him enough to get him to not half-ass it when they went after Lilith, but if Dean hadn't come back and after they got Lilith? Was Sam really planning on sticking around?
Anyway, YAY that someone finally told Sam, straight up, you think you're controlling this but you're not. So now Sam has to decide--the angels will kill him, but he can probably kill Lilith first. So is it worth it? Is Sam even in a place anymore where he can think like that, or have the powers so corrupted him that he can't see how they're bad anymore at all? VERY VERY EXCITING! :D :D
