Yay for good episodes! That make internal sense! The boys made missteps, but it was still clearly something supernatural. Hurray!
I love the "Oh, sure this is a standalone, MotW episode. Sure" episodes. Anvilicious!
Mostly what I want to comment on, though, are some responses I've seen. Well, one.

abrakadabrah's meta (
here) and I wanted to reply to a part of it.
I have to rush (battery on the laptop is getting low), but here we go.
abrakadabrah says how she thinks Sam is going to go evil and Dean is going to have to stop him.
I don't disagree, but I wanted to add that I think Sam figures this is how it ends. Whatever he and Ruby are going to do, Sam's going to go evil to stop evil. Sam thinks he won't be able to control his powers and he's going to go bad like Ava and Jake.
The difference here is that he figures it's worth it. When he goes bad, it'll be because he's ending Lilith. And apparently, he's the only one who can. Whereas Sam? Anyone can stop Sam. He's human. You don't need demon powers or the Colt or Ruby's knife. Any old knife will do, as demonstrated by Jake.
This episode is where Sam made the decision that he's not worth Hell on Earth. He's going, "Wait a minute. I'm resisting going evil. And if I keep doing that, Lilith will win. Why do I think I'm worth more than all of the world?"
So he'll end Lilith and Dean will end him. And one of the reasons Sam looked so broken when Jay talked about doing right is that he knows it will kill Dean to have to do that. But Dean's the one who said, "You know he was never going to stop. You know you did the right thing." So Sam has hope that Dean will maybe someday be able to believe that.
I so so hope that when Sam kills Lilith, Dean looks over to celebrate and Sam's eyes are yellow and Sam just looks heartbroken and says something like, "I'll never stop, Dean. You have to do the right thing."
Because the idea that Sam's evil powers totally overwhelm him? That he was fed demon blood as a baby and that he has no chance of overcoming that? It makes my heart hurt.
I still haven't abandoned my position (elaborated
here and
here, and please feel free to comment on those if you'd like!) that his powers don't necessarily have to make him go evil, though. I guess the show is going there, but if I were on a jury? Still plenty of reasonable doubt, as far as I'm concerned.
