Whoo, that was an amazing episode. LOVED IT!
That opening montage? Might have liked it better than last week's, honestly. But I'm not sure I really like that new title card. Meh, whatever.
Loved that Dean did tell Sam about the angel. I guess he didn't have a choice--Bobby saw enough to know that it wasn't a demon, so Dean had to come clean.
Aw, Dean doesn't like being singled out at birthday parties, so never mind God singling him out for saving from Hell. Hee. But,
like I said before, he has to hear that he's worth saving, just for him. "You have to strap on your party hat"--I'm giggling at the image and wincing because I'm remembering Sam in "Ghostfacers."
Sam so compartmentalizes things. "Yeah, I believe in God. Oh, gotta go, the demon I consort with wants to chat." Never change, Sammy. Never change. Also, when have you forgotten the pie? When you got kidnapped and killed. Yeah, that's when. So...maybe not a happy memory for Dean, mmkay?
Love that Sam may get to use the car, but when there's serious driving to be done, Dean demands to do it and Sam just gives in.
I'm writing this up after the fact, so I'm forgetting things. Skipping to going back to Bobby's.
WE HAVE CANON ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF BOBBY'S COMPLETE AND TOTAL AWESOMENESS. YES. YES. YES. BOBBY. WITH THE FAN AND THE BO DEREK POSTER AND BOBBY, I THINK I MUST ALWAYS SPEAK OF YOU IN CAPS. "DO I LOOK LIKE I KNOW?" BOBBY, YOU ALWAYS KNOW. THEY ASK YOU AND YOU FIND OUT. SO...YES. ALSO, "DID YOU THINK OUR LUCK WOULD START NOW?" OH, BOBBY.
I love how Dean tried to bond with Ronald again. He liked that guy. He respected Victor at the end, he felt pity and guilt for Meg, but Ronald was cool. Ronald, he liked. Ronald...I think he kinda thought he might be able to talk about of killing him. I mean, yeah, he talked to distract all of them. But I thought there was some real feeling with Ronald there.
Oh, yeah, and Meg with Sam. She totally had a point there. I like Ruby, but she is a demon. Oh, Sam, careful, careful. And yes, it would probably be best if Sam just cut off contact with her. ::sigh:: But how could Meg know about Ruby? I mean, do ghosts just know things? Molly didn't--but Molly didn't know she was dead. Mary...well, we don't know the whole story about Mary. What other ghosts have we seen? Bloody Mary knew, I guess. Hmm.
My issue is that I'm wondering how that spell actually worked. I will now paraphrase from a comment I left elsewhere. So Lilith cast a spell that sent Witnesses after people who didn't save them. Okay. How did that spell work? Did Lilith target Sam, Dean, Bobby, Olivia, Jed, etc. etc. etc.? And if she did, did she, like, research to find out who they couldn't save and then raise those ghosts specifically? (And if so, come on, JESS!**) Or did she target them by saying (in spell form), "I send a spirit after Bobby!" and then the spell somehow sussed that those girls were victims Bobby felt especially guilty about? (And again, if so, where's Jess?)
That works best for the how-Meg-knew thing that's niggling at me. She also had just the best way to torment Dean. "Do you know what it's like to be ridden by evil and your family not know what happen to you? You know how younger siblings worship older ones." Because it wasn't really Meg, exactly, it's Meg through Sam and Dean guilt lens. Or did Lilith just cast a spell on hunters in general and she was lucky/hopeful that Sam and Dean would be among those killed?
Whatever, very cool action scene at the end. As soon as the wind started blowing, I was like, "Eek!" (I BET BOBBY WILL REALIZE THAT LOOSE SALT IS A LIABILITY AND WILL NOW, LIKE, SUPERGLUE SALT TO HIS WINDOWS AND DOORS.) I wonder if there's any reason Sam didn't have his heart grabbed. Loved how Dean caught the bowl.
That conversation at the end! I'm sort of hoping it wasn't actually a dream and that Sam overheard it. I don't know why, exactly. I just remember thinking that after they finished talking, it would pan back out to the living room and Sam's eyes would be open. But, seriously, that was fantastic. Loved the "Read the Bible" thing, because, yeah, angels are not fluffy little Cupids. I'm getting less and less nervous about the angel thing. I'm actually a little surprised that the boys don't know more about angels. No, I'm not, because as I typed that, I remembered that the boys didn't even know for sure if exorcisms would work on demons until "Phantom Traveler" and demons and angels are two sides of the same coin, and apparently, their education didn't include that particular supernatural thing. So nevermind.
Okay, random note. They were sleeping in the living room? Surely it's practically canon that they have a room at Bobby's. ;) But, no, fic aside, that house is huge. I can't imagine there isn't at least one guest room. And they did stay at Bobby's after John died. What, they slept in the living room every night for that long while?
And...I think that's all for now, folks!
**I actually knew Jess wouldn't be there--there was an interview where they said they couldn't get her, so they got another "fan favorite that would haunt Sam just as much" and...sorry, no. I mean, yes, fan favorites, no I don't believe any of those people haunted Sam more than Jess.
ETA: Wait, now, I just saw about how on Grey's Anatomy, Izzie showed Denny her prom dress? Was JDM on that episode? JDM, PLEASE TO BE MAKING SPN YOUR PRIORITY KTHXBAI.
Please forgive the following caps, but this is exactly how I thought it.
OH MY GOD, IF THEY HAD HAD JOHN THERE BECAUSE YOU KNOW SAM FEELS GUILTY ABOUT THAT. OH MY GOD. OH. MY. GOD. THEY ALL THREE OF THEM WOULD HAVE BEEN STYMIED. BOBBY NEVER MADE AMENDS. DEAN--DEAN'S DADDY ISSUES ARE ALL CRAZY. SAM...SAM SHOT JOHN IN THE LEG AND DIDN'T KILL THE YED AND JOHN SAID, "IF YOU HAD JUST SHOT ME, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED" AND THEY FOUGHT AND THEN JOHN SOLD HIS SOUL.
I'M IMAGINING THE EPISODE WITH JOHN NOW AND IT IS AWESOME. CAN A GOOD WRITER PLEASE WRITE THAT?
