A successful unsuccessful shopping trip

It was nice weather on Saturday, and my lawns were in desperate need of being mowed, so I headed off to Bunnings Porirua to hire a mower, with stellar_muddle in tow to look for gardening stuff.
Bunnings was completely out of hire mowers, and J got some, but not all, of the things she was after, so the next plan was to go to Twiglands in Churton Park.
At the very last second we decided to stop for lemons at the Lions Market by DressMart, as it was on the way. They also have a bit of a rummage sale going on, and I spotted some purple corduroy in a box. Turned out to be a pair of flares which would be perfect for dragonermine and A's 70s-themed housewarming party, and they looked like they would fit me. (they did). They cost me a whole dollar. They are homemade, obviously someone's pride and joy once upon a time.
Anyway, that necessitated going in to DressMart to look for tops to got with the new pants. I ended up buying a rather lovely decorated skirt for $30, down from $179, but no top.
Onwards to Twiglands where J got gloves & a tomato & a birthday present for Mum, and I got some bamboo thingies to hold up my peas, and some watermelon seeds since I thought they might be interesting to try growing.
Another last minute stop at the Sallies in Tawa, and that scored me a couple of suitable tops - a pink & brown number, and a black and white top so stripey that it would cause migraines if I jiggled. Cost me $9 for the lot. Jenny found a very colourful top and some stripey pants, and some plastic stuff she was after.
Then to the supermarket to get drinks for the party, and I decided to stop at the lawnmower place in Tawa, and discovered that they would have a look at Dad's old mower to see if it would be worth fixing for just $25, rather than the $50 they'd charge at the other place. Dropped J off, grabbed lawnmower from home, and took it back to the repair place. They reckon it should be salvagable, and will let me know how much repairs would cost sometime this week. I'd been saving up the hire deposits to buy a mower, but if repairs are much cheaper... Hooray for Bunnings being useless.
Actually, they weren't that useless. On Sunday I managed to score the newest and most powerful mower they had in their hire collection, and that made quick work(being three hours of hot sweaty labour) of the overgrown lawn. Looks much tidier now.
Buggered up my wrist at fire training on Wednesday. It was doing better, but I screwed it up again on Sunday. That'll learn me...
Wasn't feeling all that great last week, a bit nauseous occassionally, and very rumbly gurgly guts. Seems to have resolved itself without much problem, but I seem to have a stuffed up nose now. Maybe all the lemonade I've been drinking will nuke that. Mmm... homemade lemonade...
The 70s party was great, the outfits were slightly terrifying. The cheese & pineapple on toothpicks stuck into orange halves were a nice touch. And Xanadu. Oh my god.
Thanksgiving on Sunday was the usual round of heaps of yummy food, followed by the 17 of us beaching ourselves on the available furniture and floor space like the bloated whales we all resembled after eating far too much pie. Mmm... pie...
