I've seen two apartments in the past week. However, I've been too busy/tired/sick/incommunicative to tell you about them.
ETA: If you haven't guessed yet, I didn't get the dream bachelor I wanted.
The first was a little basement bachelor pad on a street in the Glebe. There are some great things about this street, and some inconvenient things about this street. It was raining that night, so I was blessed with a friend who not only drove me there, but waited for me to come out again.
The entrance was on the side, which was no problem. Down the stairs we went, through a door that swung shut behind us - the apartment had been brought up to fire code recently.
The first thing I noticed was that the floors were tile. Being a basement apartment, I would have to spend a fair penny on rugs, because I hate cold floors, and my slippers always go missing. There seemed to be a drain in the living room, but the landlady assured me that it was no longer actually a drain.
The walls were a pleasant yellow, as we walked through the hallway to the bathroom - a small thing with a stand-up shower. Now, normally I enjoy stand-up showers, but this one was teensy. There was hardly enough room to turn around in.
Walking out and across the hall into the bedroom, I noticed two things - it's a bit small (something to consider since I want a larger bed), and there were panels on the wall. I asked what that's about. Those panels open to the hydro gauges. 'Don't worry,' the landlady said, 'They won't be in here unless there's a problem.' Erm...
As we were walking to the kitchen, past a little nook that could be used for eating or computerizing, I noticed that the ceiling was getting shorter. Eek! The kitchen was a galley-style, with hardwood counters and new cabinetry. The exciting thing I saw was a dishwasher. A dishwasher! However, I am but one person. What use do I have for a dishwasher? It's more convenient and water-efficient to wash by hand.
One thing I noticed was that the apartment had little port-hole windows, with ledges. To make the apartment brighter, someone had put up some mirrors on either side. That was interesting.
The other benefit of this apartment was the washer and dryer - however they may be on the same floor as me, they are free, and energy-efficient.

The second apartment was a cute little thing off Preston St. - you know, north of my favoured Pub Italia, home of Ottawa's Collection of the World's Beers.
It's a second floor, with a balcony. Ascending a narrow staircase to peer into a small bathroom, I was assured that the water pressure is fine.
To the right of that was a small galley kitchen, with new cabinetry - someone was cooking bacon there. Sure, ladies, you can bribe me with bacon.
At this point, the hallway is parallel to the stairs. After the kitchen is a small bedroom, but a queen bed will fit in there, so I'm not disappointed.
Further along is a small living room, about the same size as the bedroom. I was mentally trying to arrange all my furniture in there. There's a good cable hook-up, but I'm not sure if it's internet-capable. I don't see why not, though.
The one lack of this apartment was no laundry for about three blocks.

In other news, it's really hard to appreciate opera properly when you've got PDQ Bach running through your head - whether it be the musical play-by-play or when the duck quartet starts, it's sure to make people look at you weirdly as you stifle your laughter.
