Well, I am as usual bored at work. The sad thing is I don't even have anything interesting on which I can update. Let's see…this weekend was FREEZING! Jay and I spent a good portion of the weekend staying warm inside. On Friday, we went to a Mexican restaurant off of Grand Ave in St Paul - La Cucaracha. Luckily no cockroaches were to be seen despite the name. It was actually pretty good. We then went home and watch a movie for the rest of the night.
On Saturday, Jay and I went to Maple Grove to go to Costco and putzed around Arbor Lakes for almost 2 hours. Yep, it might be below zero, but we were still brave (or dumb) enough to go shopping outside when it is that cold. Our main goal ended up being trying to find a good italian cookbook to make something really good for dinner. Jay and I haven't cooked together in so long and it was really nice to cook together again. Dave, we tried our best to find your cookbook, but alas we had to settle for Betty Crocker's italian. The cookbook actually turned out to have some REALLY good recipes. I made spinach ricotta rolls and Jay made Chicken with Terragon Mustard sauce. Both were extremely good. We bought some wine at Costco and best of all desert from Byerly's bakery! Yum! We each bought something different to share. I chose a chocolate cup filled with I believe mascarpone filling and topped with raspberries, and Jay chose a treat called "Death by Chocolate." Both were VERY good as one would expect from Byerly's bakery, but the Death by Chocolate was my favorite.
Oh and back to buying wine from Costco - you can buy a bottle of wine for $345 from there! They had quite a few bottles, so it isn't like it was only one bottle making it extremely rare - granted there were fewer bottles than many of the other varieties, but still. I would love to taste the $345 and see if it really tastes as much as it costs? I mean what honestly makes it so expensive? Does the taste make it worth the money? If you all have $345 just sitting around and you don't know what to do with it, please be my guest and buy this wine. Let me know what makes it so great? I mean I like wine, but when I think of $345 for something I consume, I could buy almost 5 Lacoste polos or 28% of a Burberry purse that I would absolutely LOVE to own or purchase a complete, brand new Coach purse. All of which, can nicely be displayed and will not be expelled from my body at a later date.
Sunday, I went to the reception place for our wedding and spoke with some vendors - the site was having kind-of an open house. Vendors were invited to come and place settings were displayed to give brides an idea of what they might like. A newer trend is to have a book made that is leather bound and like a coffee table book that details your wedding day through pictures. I saw it in a magazine and there were a few vendors advertising this service at the place yesterday. One of the vendors had beautiful books. They were really thick pages and a very nice binding. He was also offering quite the deal…$300 off if you committed him as your photographer by Feb, 28, 2008. I really like his pictures and everything. When I got home to finally look at the prices - the book is the end goal of your photo sessions as well as being able to order parents' albums and individual pictures. The most basic package, which was only 10 pages in your leather bound book, was almost $3500! Yikes! Jay and I have not yet done any cost comparisons on photographers, but wow! I am sure the bulk of the cost came from the book, but wow! That is a lot of money. I really, really want a book made but I don't think my parents will go for a $3500 photographer.
It's crazy…and Adam and Sarah you might agree…there are so many options, but everything isn't even necessarily $30 here or $40 there…it is like oh you want to upgrade or do something different…you're talking hundreds of dollars here and hundreds of dollars there. NOTHING is even remotely cheap. I honestly can see how a person could easily rack-up well-over a $20K wedding!
Anyways, I hope you all had a nice weekend! Oh and I love updates…I am sure none of your updates can be as mundane as mine are, but they definitely give me something interesting to break-up my day filled with numbers, numbers, and more numbers!
Take care!
