Thank You Meme from lotus_lizzy
So lotus_lizzy started a thank you meme and encouraged us all to spread the love... so here I am...
I've been lurking in this fandom since I took my first tentative steps into fanfiction. I started on fanfiction.net (le sigh) reading CSI NY fic. (The season 3 finale made me really mad and I had vaguely heard of fanfiction so I turned to google to see if I could find anything to make it better...) That must have been 2006, I think? Then I starting reading h/d on ff. Then I noticed all the really great authors had their homepage as something on livejournal. Then I started exploring lj and lurking and reading and absorbing. I kept thinking about getting an lj of my own, but I figured I wouldn't have anything to put it in. Then in January 2009 I took the plunge, got an lj, delurked, gradually said hi to authors whose stuff I'd read and liked, and got stuck into commenting and trying to make up for all the comments I hadn't posted in my years of lurking...
Then something happened that totally took me by surprise. Browsing the prompts list for hd_smoochfest, I saw something and I just thought I have to write that fic. Reading through my flist, I saw that it had struck some other people too, who also thought wow, that's a great prompt. I almost chickened out at that point... But I figured I'd ask for it, and if I got then that was great, and if I didn't that was great too.
I got it.
And kinda freaked a little bit. Then started writing it compulsively.
After I'd written a draft, I pm'd alaana_fair who had also been thinking about claiming it. I asked her if she could possibly look at what I'd written, and suggest some concrit. She replied saying sure, no problem, send it along.
I did, and she was nothing but wonderful. Great advice delivered in a really kind tone. She took time in her weekend to read 8k of first draft from someone who had asked a kinda cheeky request when she had absolutely no idea whether I could write or not.
She was made of win, and so generous in her time and writing knowledge to me.
So alaana_fair you are my first fandom thank you! The first person to ever read my fic!
The fic that resulted was facta furiosum (or here). Alaana's part in making this story work should not be underestimated!
