Awesome news.... Avenue Q London Saved....

Mar 09, 2009 19:21

I was pretty sad when I heard Avenue Q was closing in the West End.
Especially when I heard it was to be followed at the Noel Coward by Calender Girls: The Musical.... I mean, seriously? But fabulous news today! Due presumably to all the people like me who booked tickets to see it one last time when closing was announced Avenue Q is one of the only shows not to experience the downturn and is reopening on Shaftesbury Avenue after a month off. I am so happy about this.

One thing though. Please, Avenue Q producers, "George Bush WAS" is not the right line to replace "George Bush" in For Now. "This show". That was an inspired suggestion. It's meta and it works on so many wicked levels. Indeed, why hold a competition to find a line to replace "George Bush" if you're just going to go back to using "George Bush" after a couple of weeks? Sigh. And some of the lyric changing to "suit" a London audience is bizarre to say the least.

Nonetheless, it's still one of the greatest musicals in the West End at the moment. It's yet to be announced whether the same cast is continuing, but I well hope so.
