Not that I don't love them, but.
I was cleaning my room today,* and amid the flotsam and the detritus, I happened upon the fuzzy black kitty ears** I'd bought around Hallow-e'en last year to be funny. I chuckled and showed them to my brother, who promptly swiped them and wandered around in them for a while. (...A 6'3, 200+ lb. teenage boy voluntarily wearing fluffy kitty ears. Lulz were had.) Eventually I stole them back, absently put them on myself, and went back to cleaning.
A short while later, I look up to see one of my cats--Possum--STARING at me from out in the hallway, eyes wide in the most pristine picture of abject feline horror I have ever seen in my life.
I couldn't help it: I laughed. And he bolted.
He came back later and gave me the very same look, and damned do I wish I'd had the camera handy, or that I even had a faint idea as to its location, because it was absolutely a Kodak moment.
I ended up having to get down on all fours and make friendly cat noises at him*** before he'd even approach me, though he still looked deeply disturbed. And it had to be the ears, because I took them off a moment later when he wasn't looking, and he treated me just as he normally does, without even a passing hint of the former anxiety he'd displayed.
So very odd.
...Shall have to try it again tomorrow and see if I can't get a picture of his face.
* Despite the fact that I'm something of a neat freak (I'd imagine most mysophobes are) and like things to be in order, my room tends to get messy at an annoying rate. I blame this entirely on the principle of entropy. And perhaps the Law of Household Geometrics as well.
** I firmly believe that every anime fangirl must own a pair of kitty ears--no cosplay wardrobe is complete without them.
*** I spent much of my childhood beneath the age of ten desperately wishing to be a cat. I often behaved accordingly, so I'm rather familiar with cat mannerisms, at least those I've observed in my own feline companions.
