2007 Summer Reading List
1. Tithe by Holly Black (finished ~6/22)
Not as great as everyone makes it out to be. I'm sad I actually bought it, but I want to find out what happens enough to check out the next two books. I think it's aimed at younger teens, but if I had kids I don't think I'd let them read it because of the sexual stuff, etc. But then I read Mists of Avalon in 7th grade, so maybe I'm being silly.

2. A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot (finished 6/27)
An angsty French novel about a paralyzed girl whose fiance was "killed" in WWI, and her search to find him. Angst, angst, angst. And with an unsatisfactory ending.

3. The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Field Guide by Holly Black (finished 7/1)
A short kids novel (took me about half an hour to read). Cute, and I might check out the rest of the series.

4. Allegience by Timothy Zahn
Another Star Wars book. If you're new to Star Wars books, Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy and Andrew J. Jackson's Jedi Academy trilogy are the best introductions, but Allegience takes place between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, so it doesn't require a huge knowledge of SW canon. But it does introduce Mara Jade, who becomes an important character later on. All in all, a really good book by my favorite SW author.

5. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling (finished 7/21)
A re-read because I didn't remember it too well. One of my least favorite HP books. :P

6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling (finished 7/21)
z0mg! Awesome! No need to write a review because I'm posting about it like crazy.

7. Valient by Holly Black (finished 7/27)

Next on the list: whichever Star Wars: New Jedi Order book I stopped at, Cronin's The Keys of the Kingdom, The Lies of Locke Lamora (could NOT get through this book, I think because the protagonist is a theif and I like my epic good vs. evil books), the rest of the Tithe series, Golden Compass, Eragon, Freakonomics.
