Today as I was leaving Rite-Aid, I heard a buzzing.
There was a hummingbird stuck in the vestibule area of the store. It couldn't figure out that he couldn't fly through the glass. It would buzz for a few seconds, get tired, and land on the windowsill. I tried my best to help it. I cupped my hands to catch it next time it landed, he lost a few feathers. I took him outside to where there were some flowers for sale, stuck his little beak in the flowers, but he wouldn't budge. I decided to put him under some bigger flowers in the landscape. But I think the ordeal might have done him in. I doubt the bird will survive, I tried to help.
It's an old mexican superstition that catching a hummingbird brings great fortune (luck +10), but I can't imagine how anyone could feel fortunate holding this poor defensless bird.
