Appearance: Fai has short blond hair with nice clear blue eyes. He is rather tall, generally wearing a white and navy blue tailcoat type coat with matching dark blue shoes and gloves that covers his arms and hands completely. It has a collar that covers most of his neck. He also has a big puffy white and blue coat for when it's cold, made for the snow and looks it, too.
Abilities: Fai is being taken from the point in the manga when his power is pretty much at its strongest point. As a kid he had at least half the magic as the King, and he has aged and practiced magic a lot since that time. With both of his eyes he apparently has enough magic to collapse a world around him since a curse he gets placed on him will use his magic to do just that. Fai is very good at fighting without magic, usually using some pole he finds around to aid him, and few have beaten him in a serious fight.
Personality: Happy go lucky wold be the simplest way to sum it up. On the outside, he tries to give off an air of being happy and carefree. He almost constantly has a well practiced fake smile on his face, and he pokes fun and laugh at whatever he can. However, should that mask fall, behind it is a strong stress, sadness, and guilt. He has yet to let go of his past, the past that he's running from physically as well as with that smile.
He doesn't want to get attached to anyone, and tries to keep any attainments or bonds at bey. He thinks himself as a selfish and bad person for what he did to his brother. Of course he is nice and very kind to people, wanting to seem carefree, despite the burden he's always carrying. He feels like he's worthless, and he doesn't want to hurt people by getting close to him, still believing somewhere in the back of his mind that he'll bring misfortune to anyone around him. This is why he also doesn't fight very seriously for his life. He doesn't use his magic on the chance that the person he is running from might sense his magic even if he's in another world.
Even if he's insulted or in a dangerous predicament, he still has that smile on, seeming optimistic. And even though Fai acts like a spaz half the time, he is very intelligent, picking up on things that others might not. In the manga it's usually revealed that he knew some event that happened would from the very beginning, though he never told anyone. He is the first one to figure out that Sakura is a clone, knowing this a long time before the reader and the rest of the characters find out.
And he hates sushi and can't use chopsticks.
History: Names will get confusing in this, just so you know. I'll call the character I'm apping Yuui just in his history, though I've been calling him Fai in everything else. So, Yuui has a twin called Fai. They were born in Valeria, a very cold country where it snowed. They were princes, and their mother killed herself shortly after giving birth to them. In this country twins were a bad omen and foretold the downfall of the country, and their mother was ashamed that she gave birth to them. Their father got sick and died soon after their own mother's death. Their father's brother, the King of the country, summoned the twins before him, and said that one of them must kill the other. Yuui and Fai had strong magic, and just as kids their magic rivaled the King's. He felt threatened by it, since their magic would continue to grow and he didn't want to be overpowered by them. And of course them being twins added to that fear, too. Yuui and Fai, maybe around five or six at that time, held hands and just stared at the king. They would not kill each other. The king, outraged, banished them, putting Yuui in a deep pit were the dead bodies of sinners were dumped, and Fai in a tall tower right next to the pit.
Time stood still in both the tower and the pit, no magic worked there, and there the twins suffered for years. Yuui with rotting dead bodies, Fai up in the tower, both able to hear each other if they yelled but unable to touch. One day, Yuui noticed an unusual number of bodies in his pit, children too. He noticed that one of the bodies was a messenger and there was a scroll on him. Yuui picked up the scroll and read it. It was a plea for help, telling the neighboring countries that the King of Valeria had gone mad, and was asking them for help. Soon after that the King falls into the pit, still very much alive. He yells at Yuui, telling him that everything was his and Fai's fault. All these deaths, the fall of the country, everything. The King then kills himself, cutting off his head right in front of the boy. Yuui looses it after that, all these events and deaths being too much.
Fai, up in his tower, hears Yuui's cries of anguish and wants more than anything to help his brother. This is where Fei Wang Reed comes into the picture. A portal opens up in front of Fai, Fei Wang Reed behind it. He gives the boy a choice, saying that he is able to get one of the twins out of this country. Fai chooses to save Yuui, and thus falls out of the tower and into the pit, dead. Fei Wang Reed manipulates Yuui's memory, making him remember that he chose to save himself over his brother, and thus killed his own twin. Fei Wang Reed did that in order to use Yuui. He tells Yuui that he will be able to bring Fai back to life if Yuui would be his pawn. Yuui agrees, has two curses set upon him, and Fei Wang Reed erases the deal from Yuui's mind, since the curses will enforce it. Said curses are to kill whoever is a stronger magician than him, and another curse will use his magic to collapse the world around them.
Yuui then takes on his brother's name, Fai, for the next part of his life. As for getting Yuui out of that pit, which was part of the deal, a man named Ashura appears and basically adopts Yuui, giving Yuui the last name Flourite and raising him in Celes. Yuui's magic gets more powerful every time he uses it, though Yuui has found that he is unable to preform healing spells, just destruction ones. Yuui gets one of Sakura's feathers to keep Fai's body from rotting. After that he finds two more of her feathers, one which he uses to make Chi, an artificial being that looks like his mother. The other he was supposed to keep and give to Sakura for the first time he meets her.
The source of Yuui's magical powers is the blue color of his eyes, which also greatly increases his lifespan. His left eye increases his powers on usage while his right eye decreases his powers. Since his powers are connected to his eyes, if he looses his eyes then he looses his magic, and if he looses all of his magic it'll lead to his death. Ashura places a tattoo on Yuui's back to keep him from growing stronger than himself. Yuui promises Ashura that he would kill anyone who threatens the country of Celes. The next plot twist that comes along is it turns out that Ashura starts killing people, wanting Yuui to kill him. So Yuui's supposed to kill Ashura, but since Ashura is like a father to Yuui, he is unable to, and instead he seals Ashura in a pool with a sleep spell.
At that point he uses his magic to send himself to another dimension, one where the Time Witch is. There he meets Sakura, Syaoran, and Kurogane. He goes there because his spell on Ashura won't last forever, and he's afraid that Ashura will come after him once awake again. As part of the deal to gain Mokona and thus the power to travel to different worlds, he gives up his tattoo. From that point on he refuses to use his magic, since if he uses it and it grows, it would give his position away to Ashura. Yuui's been traveling with that group since then.
