I guess I should mention that I have a job! Hooray for me! I am employable!
It's as a software developer, at a software development company. Which, it occurs to me while typing that, might seem like a slightly kind of random choice for the person with no computing experience. But basically, computers are cool, and I want to learn how to make them do things, and the small amount of coding I've done seems to scratch the same sort of problem-solving itch as doing maths at university did. And also I have to learn a whole bunch of stuff to do this job, and that's exciting. It's in dorset, which I am fairly neutral about (pro: new places are exciting; con: MILES from anyone I know), but after you finish training they start sending all over the country to work with clients, which is pretty cool. With the four months of training and the moving to a new place, it's going to be a bit like going to university again, for a while. Except I get paid! And also I'll be doing something useful. At some point towards the end of uni I got fixed on the idea that I hadn't yet done anything that benefited anyone but myself and I felt a bit claustraphobic about that.
Woo for things changing!
On the downside I've now got massive amounts of the 'noooooo my holidays are going to end and i havent done anything i wanted to do' blues. So I'm vaguely stressing about how I can fit in seeing the world, writing the greatest album the world has ever known and whatever else I wanted to do with my life, and find somewhere to live, in between now and starting work (which is sometime next month).
A couple of nights ago me and George spent several hours making a program in c++ that let's two people play noughts-and-crosses. I found it immense fun. And I spent the next day thinking about how you'd get the computer to play for itself. This kind of confirms for me that I want to do programming. (Although, people with computer-type jobs, if it turns out that acutally programming for a living is rubbish, now would be a good time to let me know!)
Aaaaa my precious free time is coming to end. I should write a song or go somewhere I've never been before . Or maybe I will play super mario galaxy some more.
