You know, I was going to post an update about my actual life, ie. my work, friends, funny anecdotes, etc.
But I say who needs a RL entry when it's World Cup season! This calls for a...you guessed it! A pic spam! I was going to do one of my favorite team, Spain, but their opening game was just so sad to watch :/ Then I just watched the U.S. vs Slovenia game and I'd like to tell the world that it doesn't know anything about American soccer! Hell, I didn't even know we could be this amazing!
By proving their worth (and getting cheated out of a win -_- THANKS FOR CALLING AN IMAGINARY FOUL, YOU PIECE OF SHIT REF!), the U.S. has earned my first pic spam of the 2010 Cup! (WARNING: Very image heavy cut!)
FIFA World Cup 2010 - June 18th - United States 2-2 Slovenia
I've never seen such American pride outside of the U.S./Olympics, not gonna lie. It kind of had me in awe. Americans have been known to suck major donkey balls at soccer, so to see such a show of pride gave me the notion that there is indeed hope for the U.S. team (especially after beating Spain and nearly toppling Brazil in the 2009 Confederation Cup. Ballin'!).
Then, after a dismal first half in which the U.S. was down two-nil, something glorious happened!
Can we just take a look at the Slovenia goal keeper's face? PRICELESS. This still is currently the background on my laptop. The keeper literally flinched. What kind of goalie FLINCHES when a ball comes his way? *shakes head*
And then miracle number two occurs! Thank you, Michael Bradley for evening up the score.
...celebration continues. Rightfully so! I was watching the game at a sports bar with some friends and the entire place went nuts. The bartender gave out free shots in honor of the second goal. I almost accidentally threw a chicken wing in the air in glee. Yeah. It was intense.
Tim Howard emulates what I looked like for the majority of the game (before we were robbed of that third, game-winning goal, that is. D'oh!).
And here some other action stills for your viewing pleasure:
In order to advance, all the U.S. has to do is win against Algeria by two points, or tie with Algeria and make sure Slovenia beats the English by two, I think. Should be a piece of cake - hopefully. If there's one thing I've learned from watching FIFA in my two decades of life, it's that you can't expect anything from the Cup. Teams can't be expected to win any game, no matter how insignificant the team (here's looking at you, Mexico, for giving France - my beloved Bleus - a beat down). Odds and stats and the like are all out the window when it comes to this tournament - which is what I love most about FIFA.
But it's sad that it had to come to this. I would love for both the U.S. and England to advance to the round of 16, but now only one of them can go on. For a change, I'd rather it be the U.S. England has played like shit so far and, not only do I think that they don't deserve it, I don't think they want it that badly. The U.S., I think, has shown that they want it AND, after today's game, deserve a shot. England doesn't seem to care anymore. The only person who cares is this guy, and he's not even playing:
Oh Mr. Beckham, why are you so beautiful?
