There are some things I really like about my job. Namely, I like the flexible schedule, the diverse focus of my work, and the fact that I get to go about town meeting lots of interesting people doing lots of interesting things. Its also a very high paying job, which is a big part of the reason I took it.
Lately, however, I have had some concerns about the long term prospects of my position. For one, I often doubt whether my employer will be in business in six months or a year. For another, I have been finding myself in disagreements with my boss lately. That's rarely a good thing, but its lately been bothering me something fiercely. Since I worry about the organization's viability, it is important to me that we make the best decisions - and sometimes I don't agree with the decisions my boss is making.
Adding pressure to my resolution of these challenges is the fact that my family does rely pretty substantially on my earnings, and that I doubt I will be able to land such a good paying job quickly, if I were to lose mine. Most likely, I would have to take a reduction in pay to work anywhere else, unless I were to secure a job with a great deal more responsibility. Since I like the flexibility and pay of my current job, but don't know if it has long term legs, I find myself challenged to make the decision: should I stay or should I go?
Only the future will tell.
