I like music.
No, I love music. Its my religion, by some accounts. That doesn't mean I like concerts or band paraphanelia or pop idol worship. It means I can't go a day without humming a tune or singing a melody or listening to a song. My tastes are wildly eclectic, ranging from rock and indie rock to classic rock to country to rockability to motown to swing music and on and on and on. Sometimes its the groove; sometimes its the guitars; sometimes its the lyrics.
I feel good when the Get Up Kids play the opening riff to "Ann Arbour" and its the same feeling when Beyonce' sings, "If you want it then you should have put a ring on it." Yes, my love of music knows no bounds. In fact, I have a lot of guilty pleasures when it comes to music. So many people see the name or image of an artist and their taste in music begins discriminating. I try never to do that. If a song has a beat or a rhythym or a melody or a poem in it that moves me, I go with it. This makes for a strange cd collection.
Right now I'm listening to Canadian songstress Sarah Harmer sing, "Around This Corner." I first came across Ms. Harmer while listening to a station out of Windsor, which seems to share my love for music. Their sets are always eclectic - except for the fact that Canada requires certain amounts of time allocated to Canadian artists - and their djs introduce each song with a lengthy discussion of the artist, the song, or the part of it all that moves them. Its nice.
That said - here's to music. My religion.
