ken and i went to a japanese restaurant in alameda tonight called Yume (meaning dream...and also my tattoo). it was so great...we sat at the sushi bar with all these folks who were either native speakers or who had learned from spouses and etc, and we talked all evening in our broken japanese. the woman next to us bought us a bottle of sake and the sushi chef gave us some sort of vinegared deliciousness to try for free. good times. we'll have to go back. i'm slightly tipsy as we speak and didn't even mind that i had dinner dishes to do tonight.
as for oregon...i have no idea how to organize my experiences in a readable fashion, so i suppose i'll just keep them to myself or tell you about them individually. in brief though...i stayed at an amazing hostel in ashland and an amazing hotel in portland...i met a ghostly woman who sold me books on manners and sex from the 1940s, and a park ranger (Ranger Grant!) at the Oregon Caves who seemed to take a liking to me...i hung out with the lovely Sharin and saw her incredible house...i bought books on women in photography and a few children's stories in Japanese from Powell's (aka HEAVEN if you have money to burn
)...i saw Crater Lake and fire-dancers and smoked out on the railroad tracks and enjoyed the best of company. oui. good.
tomorrow i'm heading back to orange county for a few weeks, then up to Mills to begin the school year! yes! happy!
