Still feels like our first night together//Feels like the first kiss, it's gettin' better baby//No one can better this///Still holdin' on, you're still the one//First time our eyes met, same feelin' I get//Only feels much stronger, wanna love ya longer//You still turn the fire on///So if you're feelin lonely don't//You're the only one I ever want//I only wanna make it good//So if I love ya a little more than I should//Please forgive me, I know not what I do///I can't stop lovin' you ~Bryan Adams
Ben stretched lightly as he woke up, before rolling over to look at Kala for a minute. He'd been thinking for a long time about trying to find the right moment to ask. He didn't want it to be cliche, or overdone. He wanted it to be perfect. But it was a new year, new start, and he wanted to do it with her.
He pushed himself up, pulling away from her gently, before heading into the kitchen and getting ready to start breakfast. He didn't know how long she'd sleep, but he wanted to do this a certain way, and cooking gave him a chance to get what he wanted to say in order. He made his way into the kitchen and started to pull food out of the fridge and getting ready to cook.
She was tired, warm, and completely happy where she was. Kala rolled over at his absence and cuddled up to his pillow before drifting back to sleep.
About fifteen minutes later, Ben made his way back into the room with a tray of food. He placed it down on the table next to the bed for a moment, before reaching over and kissing her shoulder lightly. "Morning."
Kala smiled and turned into him. "Morning." She stretched and opened her eyes. "After all that fun last night, aren't you supposed to stay in bed with me all day?"
He grinned slightly at that, before nodding back towards the food. "Oh, I plan on it, but I figured we could use a little sustenance." He pulled back and reached for the tray. "Hungry?"
"Mmm, yes. Is there orange juice?" She propped herself up slightly and pulled the covers up over her chest. Not that she minded eating naked, but she didn't think it would get far that way.
"Of course," he said with a nod, before bringing the tray over and placing it in her lap gently.
She sighed as she looked it over, then glanced over at him with a grin. "You're perfect, thank you."
"My pleasure," he said softly, before leaning in to kiss her gently.
She kissed him back, touching his cheek, then picked up her orange juice. "You have to work today?"
He shook his head, sitting down on the other side of the tray from her and starting to eat. "No. Firm is closed on New Year's."
"Good. Cause with jet lag, and last night...I'm not leaving your bed." She grinned as she started to eat
He smirked back at her. "Well, if I did have to work, that would be the perfect incentive to call in sick."
"I would hope so," she nodded.
He nodded, and continued to eat for a moment, clearly having something on his mind. His eyes stayed on his food, running through the possible ways he could introduce the subject, and so far coming up empty.
Kala was completely oblivious, just enjoying her food and regaling a New Years past when, at ten years old she accidentally drank her mom's glass of champagne instead of the sparkling cider. Ben chuckled slightly as he listened to the story, before finishing up and placing his plate back on the tray. Once she finished, she moved her plate over as well and nodded. "Very good."
"Good," he nodded, before scooping up the tray and leaning in to kiss her again. "I'll be right back."
"Okay." She stretched and gave a yawn, more sleepy now that she had eaten. She closed her eyes and rested as she waited for him to return. He returned a few minutes later, sitting down next to her on the edge of the bed, taking her hand in his lightly. She opened her eyes and rolled over to curl against him. "Get in bed," she said softly.
He nodded slowly, before placing his other hand on top of hers. "Can I talk to you for a minute first?"
She blinked, then frowned slightly and sat up. "Something wrong?"
"No, no," he said, shaking his head slightly. "I just -- have something I need to ask you."
"Oh. Okay. What?"
He took a deep breath, before looking up at her with a small smile. "I've never really just clicked like this with anyone before. I've -- I've thought I had, but I was wrong. It wasn't like this. This is a thousand times better, and it's not something I want to lose anytime soon." He looked up at her, nerves clear in his eyes. "Kala, will you marry me?"
Her jaw dropped completely. To say she wasn't expecting it was probably pretty cliche in itself, but it was the truth. She couldn't even form words, she just watched him. He watched her back, waiting for her answer. She still couldn't speak, but she could nod. So she nodded, trying to close her mouth. A grin stretched across her face, as he moved closer to her, cupping her face in his hand as he leaned in to kiss her.
She kissed him back slightly, unable to put much into it at just that moment. Her hand came to his chest and she pulled back to look at his face. "Are you serious?"
"Deadly," he said with a nod, suddenly worried that she was going to take it back. "Never been this serious about anything before."
She bit her lip, then moved her arms around his neck tightly, pushing herself into his lap. "I love you," she murmured against his neck.
"I love you too," he murmured, pulling her closer and rubbing her back lightly. She just held on tightly for awhile, not wanting to let go. He tilted his head down slightly, dropping his lips to her shoulder lightly, before his head shot up. "Oh! I have a -- " One hand moved from around her back towards the nightstand and pulled out a small blue box, holding it out to her.
That was the only thing that would make her move much at that point. Her eyes lit up and she grinned, grabbing for the box. "For me?"
"Yes, for you."
"You really didn't have to," she said, obviously for show, as she kept her eyes down to open the box.
He chuckled slightly, watching her as she opened it. Inside the box, was the
engagement ring.
Kala gasped as soon as her eyes hit it. It was so sparkly and pretty and...hers. "It's...incredible, Ben." She looked up. "Seriously. You..didn't have to go this all out."
"Yes, I did," he nodded. "You deserve it."
And great. Now her eyes were tearing up. She threw her arms around him again, the box still in her hand. The though to put it on didn't even occur to her at the moment.
He pulled her in closer, kissing the side of her neck lightly, before whispering in her ear. "Want me to put it on you?" She just nodded. He pulled back again, taking the ring from the box, and then taking her hand in his, slipping the ring onto her finger, before bringing her hand up to his lips for a quick kiss. She sighed and looked at her hand, everything slowly starting to settle in. And it didn't scare her. It just made her happy. Happier than she'd been since they met. Which was quite a feat. Her hands cupped his cheeks and she leaned in to kiss him. This time she put a whole lot more into it. He leaned into the kiss with her, sliding his arms around her waist and pulling her in closer.
Her arms went around him and she pushed herself closer with a soft chuckle. "Your naked fiance is in your lap...going to do something about it?"
"Absolutely," he said with a grin, leaning in to kiss her again as he pushed her back on the bed.
