Mom and I attended church especially to hear the sermon given by the Archbishop of Canterbury, at St. Martin's Episcopal. He seemed good humoured and intelligent, two things qualities that seem the harder to find as you ascend in the hierarchy. It happened to be a comfortably filled early service and two elderly people slid in on my right at the opening hymn. Not until we were giving the peace did I notice that the lady was Barbara and on her other side was George (didn't get to shake his hand though, garn.) That was distracting for at least 10 minutes. FIrst ladies are really special in Texas. We happened to be in Austin for Ladybird's funeral procession, a couple years ago, and there was lots of pomp. So, needless to say, sitting next to Barb was a real treat. Check, check, check; that was productive hour and a half.
