lilywinky told me that FEMA assistance after hurricanes can be a loan, not a grant. I sent her a letter. No response back yet. Below is slightly expanded version of what I sent to her.
======================================
If you have any details on your friends' FEMA loan I would be most appreciative.
Was the loan interest free? Or low interest?
Was it a LONG term loan (maybe 10 years or so)?
Did the loan cover all expenses? Or just enough to pay a month's rent? I would not mind a loan large enough to pay for *ALL* expenses, including a trike and Washer/Dryer (if new apt has hook-ups for washer/dryer). As I have burned wash boiling on the stove, I need to find other ways of washing clothes. One of the reasons Tony & Rosie may not want me to return after damage repairs is their fear I may burn down their building. I hate laundromats. Waste of time. I hate using washers & dryers previously used by smokers, etc.
If I get as much as I want from FEMA, I will even be able to repay some of my old loans and maybe even get supplements I need. WOOT! WOOT!
I very much need small monthly paybacks (~$50) over the next decade or so. I can afford $50/month since Social security payments should be going up some once I repay them the $50/month they have been deducting because they initially over-payed me.
A short term loan at high interest rate does not seem it would do me much good.
