I never liked the atmosphere of Starbucks or what they sold. Now, I won't ever go into one of their stores.
===================================================
Coughing, sneezing and serving you -- that’s the Starbucks way. Employees who are sick and unable to find a co-worker to cover their shift must show up to the job, or risk being fired.
Given the economy, that’s not a choice many employees can afford to take. And so Starbucks, a company that made nearly two billion dollars in profits last year, forces its workers out of bed and behind the counter. This policy mistreats employees, and endangers customers.
Not all Starbucks stores force sick employees to work. Starbucks workers overseas in Chile and Greece are able to stay home rather than expose customers to their illnesses. It’s time for Starbucks to lend its American workers the same basic right -- the right to recovery. Like many service companies, Starbucks makes it hard for employees to stand up for their rights, but by banding together, members of SumOfUs.org can speak up to protect them, and ourselves, from corporate greed.
