Howdy Do

Aug 13, 2009 01:43

It's been eons, I'm such a slacker. I can't even coast by with the daily Twitter posts, coz the little program died that used to collect tweets and send them to LJ.  I'm mostly on Facebook and just don't make the time to use LJ like I used to.  I do apologize for not keeping up with everyone's blogs.  I tried getting a bit caught up tonight, but I know I didn't get to everyone's blogs to leave a little comment. I'll try again tomorrow :)

I was talking to myself this afternoon - as I tend to do in my car after work!  I hit on the phrase "informed passion - with integrity".  I like passionate people - feel strongly about your beliefs, but... could it be based on facts, and done in such a way that it doesn't dissolve into death threats?  Then I thought... but how do you get information that isn't tainted in some way?  Even statements straight from the original source can be misheard, misinterpreted, taken out of context, etc.  Is the lesson to take EVERYthing you see/read/hear with a massive grain of salt?

I'm really troubled by the mayhem taking place around the health care issues.  I'm for spirited debate and working through issues - but shouting matches, throwing punches, and death threats seem a bit AlQueda-ish to me.   What's next, rock throwing?  Gun-fights?  Bombs?

Do you know what happens in day care if 2 little kids start fighting?  They're told to use their words. Name-calling is not permitted.  Physical contact is not permitted. Loud shouting is not permitted.  Cross the line and you're put into time-out.  Continue to cross the line and you get suspended.  I'd really like to think that a collection of adults could have a spirited debate of an issue without it devolving into madness.  Maybe they need some daycare providers to monitor the town meetings and hold them in a room full of corners - enough that each person can be sent to one, if needed!

On the plus side - after at least 2 decades of apathy, loads of people are thinking about what they want their country to be and are getting involved.  That's cool.

Other news:  My work is still there (knock wood) and our site is still open. I'm very busy there and really enjoying the variety of work (I've inherited work from others who have left).  My husband is still seeking an IT job and working 2nd shift.  Despite the minimal time together, we're having a lovely life. Kathryn is going into 3rd grade and school starts in a couple of weeks.  We are very, very blessed.

Movie news: I can't wait to see Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law!?  SQUEE!)  Gamer looks interesting, too, but then anything with Gerry Butler in it will have my attention ;)   The Ugly Truth was randy & hilarious.  Gerry was great for the part - his character would be really easy to loathe, but he has that twinkle and softens ... he grows on ya as the film progresses.   We're going to see G.I. Joe tomorrow or Friday.

TV News:  Counting down the days till The Big Bang Theory and Castle return.  Oooh, and Mentalist.  Those are my top 3!

It's nearly 2:30 a.m. and I'm clearly rambling.  Guess that's what happens when I take a few weeks off, eh?
Nite!
