Grrrrr

We've been up one hour, after both of us getting a great night's sleep.  We woke up fine, both took showers, all squeaky clean, ready for a new day.  Then we came downstairs and she reverted into the little snot she was last night.   She'd been sassing in that demeaning, sarcastic tone teenagers are so good at - and she's SIX.  Yesterday, she was given 2 gentle warnings.  After a 3rd strike last night I told her that the warnings were over - if she did it one more time, I was going to start giving punishments - taking away toys, giving time-outs, spanking, whatever I have to do to make it CLEAR that she isn't to talk to me that way.  I wouldn't talk to a dog in that tone of voice, she's sure not going to use it with her mother.

We're hungry - and low sugar means short tempers round here - so I fixed her a bowl of new cereal, confident she would love it.  She starts mouthing "I don't LIKE that one, I want Cocoa Krispies instead!"  Well we don't have any, so she can eat this for now.   I also reminded her of the deal last night, that it still carries over to today.  She stomped over (bowl in hand) to sit down to eat and spilled some of the milk.  Then she starts shoving things to the ground out of frustration and saying how STUPID everything is (this word is forbidden in this house).  So up to her room - without breakfast - she went, 10 minutes.  She sassed as she walked up the stairs.  "Fine, make it 15.  I'll call you when it's time".  I am NOT putting up with this.

I just told her time was up if she's ready to come back down and behave - she told me she's not coming down, she's going to read her books.  ALL OF THEM.  (She has about 200 up there!)

Fine. Stay up there all morning for all I care.  Her Dad will be here at 11:15 and I can have some peace for a few hours.

I can't wait for the teen years.
Happy Sunday.

parenting, katie
