I'm cleaning out a bunch of papers while K is with her dad for the weekend.  She's rather attached to all her artwork and stories so it's really best, in the sake of rediscovering the countertops, if I weed through the papers while she's not here.  Granted, I still keep about half of them, they're just TOO CUTE.   I've translated into "grown up" spelling so it's recognizable

Dear Liam.  You are cute.  Katie
I love my life.  Life is fun.
My friend Kylie is smart but not as smart as me.  *oh my
Dear Mom, I hope you are ok today I love you a lot as far to the milky way

These two made me scratch my head:
My dad is great to me. He is the dad I know.
My mom is great to me. She is the person I know.
*blink - what?

But ya know what really scares me? She's old enough that when she goes down front for the children's story at church SHE ANSWERS THEIR QUESTIONS.  With great feeling.  I've noticed she gets braver every time and I KNOW what a ham she is - once she gets the buzz of people laughing at her jokes?  Eeek!   I'm just waiting.  Ok, I'm cowering!

So every Sunday, I utter a version of this small but passionate prayer:  Dear Lord, I am so grateful that you have graced my daughter with an observant eye and a sharp, quick mind.  If it wouldn't trouble you too much, could you toss in a bit of selective memory?  Ya know, to kinda go with that selective hearing thing she's got going on?  Thank you.

parenting, katie
