Fun in Toledo

This has been a really great trip! I think I've taken 150 pictures so far so it'll be some time before I get them all uploaded and choose which ones to post. And I don't think I could write and do justice to just how nice a time this has been, so I'm going to highlight what I can.

Drivers are far more aggressive in northern Ohio than southern.
Toledo is a far nicer town than I suspected.
Klinger's Mud Hens are for real
Two computer geeks can't go 24 hrs without logging on. *giggle*
Never underestimate the power of TWO adorable 5 yr old girls.
The true character of a person shows after spending 8 hrs in small quarters with 2 small children. A+.

K and I stayed in a hotel Friday and Saturday and our room was on the 3rd floor. K quickly discovered that we had the perfect view into a squirrel's nest. We saw one adult and 3 babies. SO CUTE. We had fun making up stories what they were saying. The "Mom" looked very tired. The kids were oblivious and playing. Much like what was going on in OUR room ;)

My daughter is FAR less shy than I was at her age. She walks right up to kids "hi, my name is Katie, wanna play?" I would've had a dozen heart attacks trying to do that. You rock, girl.

Whoever invented one piece swimsuits with the flotation devices built in? YOU rock. Katie had no fear and swam from one end of the pool to the other multiple times. She slept well :)

Speaking of heart attacks - just because your doctor gives you a medication doesn't mean it's good for you. I was on a nasal spray for allergies for about 30 hours when I tossed it. Damn stuff nearly killed me. Racing heart for hours, bloody nose, and very dizzy. I imagine my blood pressure was sky high. I haven't used it since yesterday afternoon and feel MUCH better. I'd rather just take a Benadryl, ya know?!

My friend "S" met us for dinner last night and we hung out a bit, then he brought his daughter B with him today and we spent the day together. Totally wonderfully cool. We had an incredibly yummy lunch on the riverfront. COSI looked like a lovely place. Perhaps next time the doors won't be locked and we'll be able to actually get in :) The girls didn't mind so much because instead, we went back to the hotel and the girls and "S" swam for... 90 minutes or so?

When we were downtown, we walked past a very interesting person who, I'm guessing, was homeless. He was kind of twitchy and was talking rapidly to a car. I snapped a photo. I really liked his hat and coat. Hope he's ok. I have a newfound respect for the homeless lately.

After swimming, we came back to the room and the girls and I made beaded bracelets/anklets to remember our first meeting. We had a little picnic in the room with all the leftovers from the past couple days and then packed up and went to a movie. I think it was the 3rd time for all of us to see "Cars" but we loved it again, anyway!

After the movie, S drove us back to the hotel. The kids hugged goodbye and Katie tearfully said as they left "but I still want to play more..." S and I are talking about them coming down our way sometime in the next month or so. I'd love to show them the aquarium and/or museums, etc. We'll find something :)

This is a good friendship. This was a GREAT weekend. It was good to get away for a couple of days and totally wonderful to spend time with the Katester before she starts school next week.

*Edit* SQUEE! The beads I mentioned earlier? They glow in the dark! How cool!!! *runs off to watch them glow in the bathroom again.

Y'all be good!

katie, friends
