FG-Whut the F??

Aug 29, 2007 00:30

We're not going to talk about how long it's been since I posted a proper FGF... because dwelling isn't good for ANYBODY. Instead, I invite you to buckle in, make some popcorn, get your nachos, do whatever it is you do to make it through these entries. (Perhaps run far, far away in the other direction?)

This post has been sitting on my computer, in some form or another, for about two weeks. So, a little bit overdue, and looking NOTHING like the original:

I give your... Fangirl Feast! (Loads of empty calories!)

1) The History Boys sort of blew me away. There's more I want to say, but I lost the notes I jotted down. OH! The Cast! The Cast was incredible! Richard Griffiths was fantastic, and I'm in love with all the boys, based soley on their talent. One in particular...

Andrew Knott! Aka DICKON, from the Secret Garden

Cute then:

Super Hotz Now, just like my nine year old self always knew he would be!

2) seviet does AMAZING Harry Potter Artwork. Most recently, she did a HUGE collection of R/Hr moments that just made me all happy. Go look. Even you, Allison.

3) "Assasians" is one hell of a musical. It's everything that a musical SHOULD be. Fun, with just a TOUCH of a lesson, and a bit of controversy thrown in. The orginal cast album is fantastic. "The Ballad of Booth" and "Everybody's got the Right" stand out. PLUS, who knew that Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, MD?) could sing? He can, though! Take a look! (And listen to the pretty...)

4) "Human Nature" was on Friday. The Doctor owns me. He really does. BOOO URNS, though to the Sci-Fi channel for taking a two-week break during a cliff hanger. Lame. Lucky I had the second part on my compy. My parents and I all crammed into my bedroom to watch. :)

5) Michael Buble's Call Me Irresponsible is really, really enjoyable. I know a lot of people think he's just a re-hash of the Rat pack originals. But, he seems to have his own FLAIR for it, though.. you know? And well, he's rather sezzy. And that voice? Observe, in this video for "Better be Tonight". To top it all off? He's a rather adorkable, hockey loving Canadian.

Rufus Wainwright, with truffles on the side!

Ladies and Gentlemen: Say Hello to Rufus Wainwright!

I saw Rufus t at the Lifestyles Community Pavillion (which you all may remember from Pete Yorn Madness '07. Sadly, the trash can no longers <3 Nick Lachey) OH my word, folks... the show was thirteen kinds of FABULOUS, and I loved every minute of it. It was about a billion degrees and the man still played for 2 hours and 15 mins. I went by myself, and I'm SO glad I didn't chicken out and not go. It was amazing. I could probably ramble on forevers, so to prevent that: BULLETS (of Rufus Love)

* The Openers were A Fine Frenzy and The Magic Numbers. Both were good, but I REALLY liked A Fine Frenzy. If I would of known she was the one who sang "Almost Lover", I would of hauled more ass down to Columbus. She was adorable, and ONLY TWENTY TWO?!?! And her Drummer? Mraw. So cute. I digress though. Next came The Magic Numbers, a fun, New Pornographers-esque band.

*Rufus came out in a red and white pin striped suit... covered in rhinestone broaches. The man looked like a sparkly peppermint. Later, it was leiderhosen(sp?) Then, a terrycloth robe. Ahahahahaha.

* The show is worth going to see for his band alone. There were all sorts of guitars/string players... and the most AMAZING brass/woodwind section. The French Horn solo on "The Art Teacher" blew me away. They were amazing. His lead guitarist, and the band's musical director used to be David Bowie's guitarist, as well! (The lovely people next to me informed me of this...) Amazing!

* Rufus played, danced, and sang for dang near 2 and 1/2 hours. (As was previously mentioned...) He played most of Release the Stars, including "Tulsa". In the intro, he explained that the song was about Brandon Flowers... "Because, well... he's kind of hot. But a bit of Monster. S'okay though, monsters can be hot sometimes..." Mwahahahaha. Other highlights included "14th Street" and "Beautiful Child", which are two of my favorite Rufus songs ever. Both those songs had people on their feet, and group singing and it was awesome.

* He also did a bunch of songs from his Judy Garland Review, including "Get Happy". The number is just as lavish and briliant as it should be, with his band memembers as the dancers. There's no possible way I can describe to you the awesomeness of it- so... I'll just have to show you:

NOTE: I'm pretty sure that he sings along with a recorded track for this bit. Which... kinda mad me sad at first. But there's a lot of dancing, and what not... Also: the band can't really be playing if they're dancing... so, I'm over it. But seriously, you guys. Watch. Enjoy...

* I got a SET LIST! (See Previous Video Post). I wasn't going to, as that's sorta Cara's thang, but I was all by my lonesome, and wanted to test out my mojo... and I got one! I sidled my way up to the front, waited for the crowd to disperse. Then, I asked a very nice sound tech man named Michael, who grabbed one for me. Waha! Politeness and a little bit of confidence goes a long way, people!!

*Rufus fans are pretty stellar in general, but after seeing 4 concerts in Columbus, I've come to the conclusion that the audiences here just stink. Not that they're rude, or anything... just BLAH.

The point of all this? Rufus was awesome!

Bwahahah. I bet you're all wondering what THAT is all about. Basicallly it's what happens when Kate is allowed to watch too many period films in one week.

*Casanova with David Tennat was ever bit as squee-inducing as I thought it would be. His Casanova is what would happen if Ten and Jack Harkness had a personality baby. Matt Lucas had me giggling for the whole five minutes or so that he was in the movie. Peter O'toole kicks ass. I think that about covers that one. OH. WAIT. David Tennat should allllllways wear Red. Always.

*I took myself to see Becoming Jane last week. I really, really enjoyed it. Anne Hathaway was fantastic, and in general, I thought it was all handled very well. The best part was being able to pick out which characters would become which in P&P. Well, at least, it was for me. Heh. There was also tons of moments like this...

What's not to like? Made me realize that we really ought to reinstate the practise of having fancy dress balls. And that I'm pretty much in love with James McAvoy. Thus, your dessert....

Everyone, meet James:

James, everyone. James comes from Glasgow, enjoys wearing period costumes, taking Hollywood by storm, and making silly faces:

...like so.

People like to make him do silly things in photoshoots...

He looks really smashing in a coat though, so he doesn't mind.

Oh, bless Science Fiction....

James shows he can sport the 70's look....

... and be an intense!doctor.

Really though, what he IS, is the cutest.fawn.evar:

James is not amused by this pic spam...

...clearly.

"Mr. McAvoy?' 'Yes?' "Goodnight." 10 points if you get the reference! And about 1238 if you made it alll the way through this post!

Okay. I think you've all be sufficently Fangirled at. Goooodnight!
