The Sun That Kisses My Cheek (louis/nick)

"Nick," a soft voice is whispering into his ear, tiny fingers traveling up his chest and theirs a warm body clinging to him. He's sort of forgotten how nice it is to be in a relationship, always having someone to cuddle and hold, a body to wake up next too.

"Nick," the voice repeats, a little louder this time and Nick wonders that if he closes his eyes and turns around onto his back, the voice will go away.

"Nick! For Christs' sake, we're going to miss it!" Louis shouts, and maybe being in a relationship isn't so nice after all. Louis' pulling the sheets off and trying to untangle Nick's arms from his body so he can jump off the bed, and maybe he doesn't want to let Louis go. He's warm.

"Miss what?" Nick grumbles, peeling an eye open to look at the clock beside him and he almost let's out a squeak when he reads '4:05 AM' on the clock.

That little bastard. The only thing he's gonna miss is his head when Nick get's the strength to open his other eye.

"The sunrise!" Louis exclaims, sitting on the edge of the bed, his legs dropping off and almost touching the ground, but not quite. He's grabbing a random shirt from the ground and pulling it on, along with boxers and he turns to glare at Nick, who is still tucked away into the blankets.

"Louis, darling, I don't think you understand the concept of vacation," Nick mumbles, but he can't stay mad for too long, because Louis is standing in front of him in a too long sweater that drops below his thighs, the sleeves covering his palms up and his fingers are curling into the fabric. His hair is ll over the place, in a way that shouldn't look so endearing and you can see his collarbones that are covered in red marks that Nick gave him the night before. And it never really hit him before right now, but he sort of, kind of loves Louis right now, so much that he wants to surge forward and connect their lips, even with Louis giving him a nasty look.

"We can sleep in tomorrow, Nick, come on! Please?" The nasty look is gone, and Louis' got these big puppy eyes he's probably learned from Harry, and dammit, no one can resist puppy eyes like those.

"You're an awful human," Nick sighs, exasperated, as he slides out of bed and pulls out the first shirt and pair of boxers he sees, since Louis' wearing his own. Louis starts rambling on about how pretty the sunrise will look, and Nick sort of wants to say that Louis' prettier than the sunrise. So he does.

"You're prettier than the sunrise," Nick says, and he's not joking. He'd rather watch Louis than watch the sun rise, and to see Louis' lips turn up into a smile when he get's complimented is sort of the best thing.

"Shut up," Louis replies, but's still smiling so Nick knows he doesn't mean it.

"As you wish, princess," Nick retorts, pressing a sloppy kiss to Louis' cheek, just to watch him squirm and blush even more. It's a great accomplishment, being able to make Louis blush constantly and whenever he likes.

"Fuck off, let's go," Louis mumbles, lacing their fingers together as he pulls them both out of the room, his bare feet making a slight patter on the hardwood.

For their one year anniversary, Nick decided to take Louis up to the beach house his sisters boyfriends family rents, and even only after being here two days, they're both pretty reluctant to go home in a few days. The house isn't too big, though it's not cramped, and it's right on the beach. It's too cold to go swimming, but they take walks and there's no paparazzi so they kiss whenever they'd like and it's sort of perfect in a way.

Louis pushes open the slider door and tugs him out onto the slightly wet grass. It's still pretty dark, though he can make Louis out by the gray sky, and he can tell the boy is just bursting with excitement. Nick sees the sunrise every morning, he wakes up at sunrise on weekdays, so this is honestly nothing special, but he's not one to deny getting to see Louis smile.

Louis' still leading him towards the sand, and he's got this hop in his step as his bare feet sink into the wetness of it, his smile only widening as he suddenly plops down onto the ground, leaving Nick to fall down next to him.

"Jesus Christ," Nick mumbles, rubbing his head from where he hit it on a rock from behind him, but Louis doesn't seem phased. He's staring up at the sky in wonder, even though the bloody sun hasn't even risen yet.

"Shhh," Louis says, placing a finger to his pursed lips and Nick rolls his eyes, laying his head down on the wet sand, and he knows that if this was anyone else, he would not be getting his hair dirty. But this is Louis, and, well.

Louis shifts so their bodies are pressed together and he rests his head down on Nick's chest, signaling for the older man to wrap his arms around his waist, which he does so.

It's silent for a very long time, their breathing even and steady as they stare up at the sky, waiting. A few birds squeak and fly around, creating a rather pretty sight in the dark sky. After a few moments, Nick's about to wonder if the sun has just gotten lazy, when he starts to see it.

The gray sky starts to lighten, and then a splash of orange looks like it suddenly appears, then shades of light blue above it, dark blue below it. Nick's jaw twitches in amazement. The orange grows darker and it looks to be a shade of pink, the color rising more and more above the oceans and above the mountains. A few dark clouds rest in the middle of it, that also seem to be getting lighter. The colors darken again before they twist out lighter, the dark blue turning almost the shade of the ocean, and Nick's not sure if he's ever seen something like this before. Louis' breathing his warm on his neck, and though Nick doesn't dare to look his way, he knows Louis' staring up in pure amazement.

The orange and pink form a thin line between the light blue and now ocean blue, and when Nick pulls his eyes away to look down at his boyfriend, he finds Louis staring up at him as well. And even though the sky transforming into so many different colors was beautiful, he thinks Louis staring at him like this is something even more amazing.

His cheeks are flushed pink, almost like the shade of the sky right now and then they're kissing, eyes closed and missing the sunrise but Louis is all grabby hands and tongue, he figures they can watch it again tomorrow.

"I love you," Nick says against Louis' lips, and then, "Prettier than the sunrise," and he knows Louis' probably burning up, but both of their eyes are shut closed and heads tilted in a ridiculous matter for their lips to meet and it's sort of a greatest moment in history.

"I love you too," Louis breathes when his eyes open, and it's the first time they've said those words fully. Not 'love you' or 'ily' over text. His stomach lurches forward and a year ago, he didn't have a small boy to cuddle or kiss or hold and now he does and he's still not over the fact they're together still.

The sky is completely light now, the sun high in the sky as they finally manage to sit up and stretch their bodies. Their fingers stay laced together as they shake the sand off each other, both smiling despite the fact their backsides are covered in wet sand.

"Shower?" Louis decides, tugging Nick along back inside, both of their bare feet making a squishing sound in the dewy grass.

"I love you," Nick replies, because he can't get over saying it. IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou. Louis laughs, eyes Nick curiously and then kisses him again.

"Yeah. I love you too, you idiot."
