Seeking recommendations! For a tablet.

I need:
  • Not an iPad. They are neat but I can't handle the 1-program-at-a-time OS.
  • Long battery life. Needs to be at least 6+ hours using wifi for light websurfing/reading/writing.
  • Good comfortable physical keyboard available for it.

I have a Nexus 7 and love it. If you're looking for a productivity device (office type tasks, etc) the size would be an issue, but it's fabulous as a media consumption device. I probably wouldn't use it as much as I do if it was full-tablet-size and iPad clunky. It's kind of like carrying around a trade paperback versus a hardcover.

If you're looking for something larger, Asus (same manufacturer) makes good tablets all around. J has a Transformer Prime that he's been using more and more as a laptop replacement.

I do want something I can write on, so I'm not sure a 7" is for me, but it's good to know Asus has a vote of confidence!

Yeah, Asus has been a strong name in the components market forever, so it's nice to see them carry the quality over to their finished devices. They'll also be putting out windows 8 tablets if that OS is more to your style.

I looked them up and saw that, but the prices for their Win8 devices are more than I can budget for this. $600 + 200 for a keyboard, and that's for the Win8 RT version. :( But I'll keep an eye out, I'm probably going to keep looking and waiting right up til mid-November before I decide.
