Aim And Precision, cowritten with the splendid
helens78; XMFC, Hellfire AU, Charles/Erik, NSFW, ~19,000. Also featuring Darwin, Raven, Angel and Hank.
Hellfire is a modern-day AU in which mutants are detained and enslaved. The Xavier Institute is a pocket of resistance where a small collection of free mutants keep each other safe and attempt to bring other mutants out of danger. Mutants like Erik Lehnsherr... but he's not interested in safety, and he brings a purpose of his own along with him.
All the stories in the Hellfire AU are titled after Maria McKee lyrics. She had a song with the perfect title for the first story,
Got To Sin To Get Saved, and from there we just kept finding phrases from her lyrics that seemed to fit with where we wanted to go.
You Gotta Sin's lyrics don't fit with the AU at all, really. But the phrase was perfect.
The other titles have more lyrical connection to the stories.
An Excuse To Breathe comes from
What Else You Wanna Know:
Don't wanna be a father
It's too good of an excuse to leave
Sometimes I wish I wasn't born
It's too bad of an excuse to breathe
And you hang (around my neck so tight)
Like a baby (you cut into my throat)
And you hang (what else you wanna know)
Fits nicely, since the main event of
An Excuse To Breathe involves Erik's power-suppressing slave collar coming off.
To See The World And Not Turn Cold is a phrase from
Nobody's Child:
How does it feel to see the world and not turn cold
I wanna hold you and protect you from the change
Though I know it’s gonna happen anyway
Take this veil
And I’ll dry your eyes
In a world like ours
You’re nobody’s child
Apropos again, as Erik meets the Institute's team of mutants in this story, and his own isolation becomes more apparent.
Aim And Precision takes its title from the amazing song
Scarlover.
And you thought you could love me just a little
And I used you to test my aim and precision
I was good, so good I was close to perfection
But you turned the blade on me
And I loved it
I loved it
And
Aim And Precision sees both Charles and Erik testing their powers, and being tested by them.
The next title will probably come from
I'm Awake. :-)
