Nepotism: Kpop edition
Ontd, were you born this way? And by "this way" I mean to famous parents with industry connections. Maybe you didn't but Riize's Anton did and he is being praised/dragged for it.
Riize, a South Korean 7 members group debuted on September 2023, and has performed well despite some scandals that started predebut and ultimately led to the hiatus of one of the members. Their latest scandal is related to member Anton and his well connected family.
19-year-old old Anton is the son of singer & producer Yoon Sang and actress Shim Hyejin. Yoon Sang is known as a singer, producer, and a living legend in South Korea. His father has produced numerous hit songs for famous artists like DBSK, IU, BoA, Park Hyo Shin, and was the main producer for the girl group Lovelyz. Yoon Sang married actress Shim Hye Jin in 2002, and they welcomed Anton in 2003, followed by their second son, Lee Jun Young, in 2009. Two years before retiring to focus on her family (around the year 2000), Shim Hye Jin participated in popular TV dramas like “Model,” “Partner,” and “How to Meet the Perfect Neighbor".
On December 31st, Riize had a special stage with Anton's father at MBC Gayo Daejejeon to sing one of his famous songs, "Run".
It was also announced that Riize would be appearing on "You Quiz On The Block", a popular Korean variety show.
Despite this, most of the discourse comes from a TikTok uploaded three days ago where Anton and his father do the "Get a guitar" challenge. One of the comments said "NEPO BABYYY" to which Anton replied with "born this way by lady gaga". Some people thought the comment was funny and he was slaying his nepo baby status while others thought he lacked self awareness, especially for referencing born this way.
