On their first date, Jinki brings along a thick wad of printed paper, and Minho squints at the title.
Minho stares. And stares.
"Are we getting married? Is this a pre-nup?"
Jinki looks embarrassed, at least, and puts his hands in his lap.
"Not married. But it's nice to be prepared, right? You can take it home and read over it, if you want."
Minho pulls it closer and reads the first paragraph.
A pre-nuptial agreement is an official document where all signees agree to the conditions listed in the event of a break up. In this case...
"What brought this on?"
Jinki rolls his tongue like he has a hard boiled lolly in his mouth, concentrating before he opens his mouth wide. "I've had experience."
"Experience in?" Minho flips the first page. There are a good forty left.
"Bad relationships. Messy break ups."
"We've all had them," Minho murmurs as he skims over the whole contract. The gist is: Jinki doesn't want their (he says, inevitable) break up to ruin their friendship.
"You think we won't last," Minho says when Jinki doesn't say anything, and Jinki fidgets. "This is why you brought a pre-nup." The couple in the next booth over send them a glance, but Minho's gaze doesn't move from Jinki's.
"Better safe than sorry?" Jinki offers, and Minho's eyes drop to the papers again, before he sticks out a hand and makes grabby motions.
"Pen," he says, and Jinki scrambles in his bag before producing a well worn one, little bunnies plastered over it. Minho scrawls his signature on the cover sheet.
"Where else do I need to sign?"
Jinki, stunned, blinks several times before he flips it and points to another page. Minho signs it, and it continues until they get to the final page.
I, the below signed, agree to the terms and conditions listed previously.
Minho signs it, and Minho gives him the pen as Jinki swallows.
I, the other party and below signed, agree to the terms and conditions listed previously.
He slowly signs and dates it.
"I think we'll last," Minho says as Jinki puts the contract into his bag, all slow and methodical. Jinki swallows and looks up to Minho's wide eyes.
"Such an optimist," he says softly even as Minho smiles and reaches over to kiss him.
