Discussion: What is it about cop shows and fandom?

Aug 15, 2013 19:36

For those of us not fortunate enough to be basking in the Karlness up in Toronto...feel like a little meta discussion?

From The Professionals through The Sentinel through White Collar, Rizzoli and Isles, and Common Law, cop shows--especially buddy cop shows--have been fandom mainstays. Almost Human, is of course, squarely in that tradition. Why do you think cop shows are so popular with fans, even though the subject matter (tough cops solving crimes in the big city) isn't in the fannish home court of sci fi and fantasy? What does the increasing diversity of fannish media mean for this staple of fandom? How do you think Almost Human fits into or plays off this tradition, and what does that mean for the show's success?
