I made a declaration of being anti-gossip about a year ago or so, but recent events have made me want to amend my statement and clarify.
*steps up to the mic and clears his throat*
...Anna Nicole Smith...I couldn't care less.
Seriously, the amount of press this situation is getting truly blows my mind. This is the sort of smarm and gossip that tabloids, and old shows like "A Current Affair" and "Hard Copy" used to thrive on. But nowadays everyone seems to be a whole lot more interested, so it's dug itself a nice little foxhole into mainstream media. My personal favorite was the cover of The New York Post the day after, with a big screaming headline asking WAS IT MURDER?
Sweet tap-dancin'...
She was a person who was famous for taking her top off...nothing else. She didn't dance, she didn't sing, she didn't act. She didn't make any lasting impact on the rest of the world. Why are people so hungry to hear the dirty laundry? For that matter, why is the press so eager to dig it up? I quote Jon Stewart "She was a person who seemed to be on an eternal downward spiral...and for some reason the media seems stunned that she finally sprialed down."
My friends, I welcome you to this, the Anna Nicole-Free Zone.
