So this week's work drama:]

~ One of my students ran away.
(To later be found at his sister's house and decided to stay there and not with his parents. No, I don't know the story.)

~ I caught a student cheating on their American Government independent study work.  I called the parent to have them bring in the answer key to their meeting that afternoon and they both came with the daughter in tears saying she was going to quit the school.  I think she was embarrassed.  I didn't even have to say anything about her copying the answer key.  She came right out and said it.  She is so close to graduating and really intellegent.  I managed to convince her to think about it more over the weekend and reassured her I wasn't going to kick her out of school, just make her do the work over.  I would normally make her write a LONG essay on plagerism and do something different for the credit for that class but she obviously knew the difference between right nad wrong and knew that what she had done wasn't right.  (Side ramble:  There is just so much pressure on kids these days, especially in some of the college situations, where they feel like they cannot succeed because of all of the demands on them so cheating has become such an epidemic. It's sad really.)

~ Another one of my students came into the school this morning for class forgetting that it was a homeschool/teacher prep day and upon realizing this, threw his hands up, exclaimed something, and stormed out, picked up his $90 physical science book and chucked it about 50 feet across the parking lot.  Now this is no small book.  He should be in baseball or something and take that agression he has out on pitching a ball because he has some serious power in that arm.  Unfortunetely for the book... and his dad's checking account.  Can we say anger management issues?  Something is definetely going on there.  I spoke with his dad about it.  *shrug*  we shall see.

~ There was about 6 kids who were at the school today that weren't supposed to be and upon asking the principal/director (whatever you want to call her) why she didn't just kick the kids out because they knew they weren't supposed to be there.  She says: "it's not my job!"  So I say, casually: "Well your the principal" and she kinda does her little chuckle and says: "they're not my students" so I say: "well, they're not my students either then".  Now in this school I was under the impression that all students were our students.  Just because I am not Joe's facilitator doesnt mean he's not my student.  And she's the friggen director!!  *huff*  But later my co-worker/friend said she was bursting at the seams trying not to laugh out loud at that.  :-D

~ I had an observation wednesday and it went really well.  I still havent heard back with his thoughts and what not yet but I think it should be pretty good.

That's about it for now.  I'm glad its the weekend.  Is it summer break yet??
