A Squeeze of Catch-Up.

Most of the time I don't update because I don't feel like anything has been worth updating about. This past month has been exciting and extremely post-worthy, so I figured, what excuse do I have now?

On December 9th, Bryan and I dropped Nathan off at his (Bryan's) fathers house, and headed to the airport for a much, much needed mini vacation. And when you're in need of a mini vacation, where else is there to go but, of course, DISNEYLAND.

We stayed the weekend, and it coincided with my birthday, which was December 11th. I turned 20.

When we came back, we finished our Christmas shopping and worked worked worked. I've been doing nothing but working lately. I've been promoted to an earlier shift, though. I'd been working 9:30A to 6:00P, and I was invited to work the busier 8A to 4:30P shift.

My 90 day probation period is up on January 21st, and from there I'll start earning my bonuses which are extremely generous and will be much enjoyed.

Christmas came and went and HOLY COW did we get a lot of stuff. I think, all totalled, we probably got almost $1,100 in cash (my birthday money included) as well as brand new stainless steel pots and pans, and a fantastic new Photo/Scanner/Copier/Fax printer. We probably got about $150 in gift cards and Nathan got enough new clothes to last him until this time next year, as well as WAY more toys than we ever imagined could fit in this apartment.

And the food. OH MY GOD, THE FOOD. Christmas Eve I cooked for Bryan, just us, a Honey Baked Ham Co. Ham, potatoes, rolls, vegetables, pie... you name it. It was nice though, the Ham was pre cooked and even though it set me back $55, it was well worth it. We're STILL having sandwiches from that damn chunk of meat.

With the money we got for Christmas, we paid off almost all our bills and bought a brand new entertainment center. You see, when we moved from Alaska, we left the old one behind because the movers were trying to charge us an arm and a leg to carry it. They said they'd have to charge us to take it apart, and there's no guarantee they'd be able to put it back together, and with all the extra charges it ended up being like twice as much as we even PAID for the stupid thing. So I gave it to my brother, and left it in Alaska.

So, the TV stand from our bedroom was being used in the living room (blech) and the TV in the bedroom was sitting on a dresser (double blech!) So, of course, when the time was right to get a new entertainment center, I was in the car and heading towards Sacramento faster than you can scream, IKEA!

Unfortunately, they didn't have the one I wanted :( Naturally, I ended up spending a ton of cash there ANYWAY, because who can really go into Ikea without buying ANYTHING?!

I ended up with a new shower curtain and bath mat, a new desk lamp, and two new storage shelves for the bathroom. Love that Ikea. Seriously.

(By the way, if you ever want to win over my heart, and I mean FOREVER, there's two different gifting options. One is an Ikea gift card, and the other is a Bed, Bath, and Beyond giftcard. I received the BB&B giftcard from Bryan's brother for Christmas, and I was like, "DUDE. If you weren't my boyfriend's brother, there's no telling WHAT I'd be doing to you right now." And I mean that in a GOOD way.)

Since we looted up on so many decorative items for our apartment, I got the wild idea to re-invent my computer desk by covering the flat surfaces with crazy, 70's inspired fabrics. Because, let's face it, that's SO ME. That's still a work in progress, it takes a lot more time and energy than I'd originally though. I've got the main area done, but my desk has 4 tiers and the 3 smaller ones are going to be the challenge. But I am SO taking pictures of it when it's done.

My next computer-friendly purchase will be a new wireless keyboard & mouse. I am so sick of all these cords everywhere. On the same token, I spend 8-9 hours a day on the computer, non-stop, at my work. And I've taken a hiatus from website design for a while for that very reason. So I really don't spend a ton of time on the computer when I'm home.

It's now taken me almost 6 hours to write this, what with Nathan and Bryan both being home with me. Nathan is going on 17 months, has 11 teeth, and is both the joy and terror of my life, heh. Gotta love them tantrums!

I'd better go. What started out as a breakfast time entry is now rounding into almost dinner time. I hope everyone has enjoyed their 2006 and has an even better '07.
