Disclaimer: This is all for fun. Also, this is the first fanfic I've written in a long time, so I'm probably pretty rusty.

He slowly opened his eyes.

He was lying face-up on the warm grass. The air around him was warm, thick, and heavy, though not unpleasant; it was like being wrapped up in a thick blanket on a cold winter's morning. The light in this place was not that of the weak winter's sun, however, but of a lazy summer afternoon, like molten golden butter. From his position on the ground the trees seemed to stretch on for miles into the air, almost obscuring the blue sky. All around him he could smell the earth, rich, dark, and loamy. The sound of the silence around him was utter and complete, but comforting, almost a music in its own right. If he had strained to listen (which he didn’t), he would have sworn he could hear the trees growing.

This was all he could tell from his current position; he was loathe to move.

He closed his eyes.

Then, suddenly, to his right he heard the softest sigh; one he would have missed if he was anywhere besides here. He re-opened his eyes and finally moved, turning his head. Beside him was another man, eyes closed, mouth slack and slanted. He had been content before, but seeing this other man filled him full to the brim with an emotion he couldn’t name, but only feel like it was *more*.

It was easy, then, to roll to the side of this man and place his head on his shoulder, face against his neck, and breathe him in.

And all Sheppard could think was, this is home.

stargate, fanfic, meep, !
