RIP Johnna Marie Peterson 1988-2005: You were a great cat. I'll miss you a lot.
(Yes, she had a middle name. I was two and insisted one was necessary.)
The vet came to see my cat this morning and confirmed our fears that there was really nothing to be done for her. She was in pain, her kidneys were failing and she was 17. So I sat and held my cat as the vet gave her a shot that made the pain go away. It was one of the saddest moments of my life. How do you say goodbye to something that has been with you your whole life? It was like losing a member of my family. Even my dad came over to say goodbye to her. Times like this make everything else in life seem so trivial and stupid.
We're having her cremated so I can keep her ashes. I'm happy about that. I would hate to just put her in some old shoebox and bury her in my backyard. She was worth more to me than to just do that.
So anyway, I will be returning to school later this evening. And no one better ask me why my eyes are puffy.
