Junior and I had a show at the Bucks County Horse Park. We rode Second 2 and Second 3.
We won Second 2 with a 65.765%. Then we rode Second 3.
We got back to the trailer and there were these huge bugs, seriously, they were like little vampire bats, and 2 of them started attacking poor Junior...at the same time as someone drove their noisey stock trailer too close to us. Junior freaked, drug my Dad around, pulled him onto the ground and then took off running.....straight into the woods and towards a major highway.
Thank God I'm a runner. I've never run so fast for so long in my life. I ran one way after him and a bunch of other people ran another way. Problem was, once you got into the woods, there were like 8 different trails going in all directions that had all been recently ridden on so following hoof prints was not an option, and all these trails led to cornfields, with about a million different ways he could have gone. At the end of one trail was the highway. I ran to the highway and there were no marks so it did not appear that he had run onto it. I closed the gate to the farm at the end of the driveway just in case he came back that way. I'm sure the people who own the property are confused as hell as to how they're gate got closed.
Thank GOD Junior turned right at the end of the woods instead of left...left went to the highway. Right went to the cornfields.
I have no idea how long he was gone for but it seemed like an eternity.
And by some miracle, I picked the same cornfield lane to run down as he did. If you turned right at the end of the lane it lead to a farm.
In the meantime, this wonderful, WONDERFUL German lady named Monika Deppen had gotten into her little SUV and drove around the back side of the park to that farm and that's where Junior had run to...and she caught him.
The whole time I'm looking for him, screaming his name I'm thinking, "God just please don't let me hear squeeling tires."
My mind is still in complete shock. This could have turned out so much worse. And even though I know he's safe at home now, my mind is still in utter shock that this happened.
I firmly believe that God was watching out for Junior yesterday. Thank God for Monika.
I should note that the reason this is one of my worst fears is that almost exactly 3 years ago, a friend of mine was out on a hack with her horse, who spooked, she fell off, he ran across the road and got hit by a car and was killed instantly, she told me she remembers hearing squeeling tires...and also because of my horsey history post about my pony Shannon.
I have no idea how I did in my second test and I really don't care. All that I really care about right now is that Junior is home, safe and sound. And by sound, I really do mean that....all he suffered was a teeny tiny cut on his right hind leg; he wasn't even stocked up this morning...but he too appears to be a little bit stunned, but happy to be home.
