Kid still cute, and I'm getting a lot of knitting done. Possible progress on the house front (more when I know more).
But that's not what this entry is about. :->
I just joined Puzzle Pirates -- what do I need to know, and who should I hook up with in-game?

(Okay, cheesy piratey talk is done.)
Learn how the puzzles work. You don't have to play all of them if you don't want to, but you should know how they work so you can say, "No way do I ever want to play that puzzle." (I took the time to be passable at all the ship puzzles, just so I could buy my own ship, but that's not necessary to the game.)
Find out if you can pay attention to the chat and your puzzle or not. It's not a bad thing, it's just something you'll need to know. People who can't split their attention (like me) have "puzzle vision," and generally warn the captain of the ship before it sets sail. There have been times when I forgot, and the captain got annoyed with me for ignoring his chat messages to switch to Bilging. (Meanwhile, I was puzzling away, putting out Incredible results in Rigging...)
If you can find a shop puzzle you like, take a job at one of those shops, and play it at least once a week. Twice a week is better, discovering you've spent two hours on it is not good. It's free pieces of eight.
Who should you get in touch with? Depends on which ocean you're on. If you're on Midnight, then the only problem would be that vixyish is on Pacific time. It's possible to make friends on Puzzle Pirates, but it's better to meet real-life friends there.
Mostly, look for people you can have fun with. (I knew I had a good group when the captain of the ship commented on giving her plank a workout that night, I responded with "Dornbeastie takes a look at Aurore's plank," and she countered with, "You know you want to touch it. :)")
Just an opinion from an old salt who's on the beach right now.

I can't do crafting puzzles right now without a Labor Badge, which costs either real money or 10x as many game-munnies as I have right now, but I'll work up to it. Distilling looks distinctly fun (for my values of fun). I really like Rigging, though I'm not great at it; Sailing is right up my alley. Bilging keeps making me wish I could do vertical swaps, which you can't, so it's a little frustrating.
