Once a friend and I did the practical math; each song = approx 5-10 minutes with tuning and patter, more that 6-10 players meant that you were playing less than once an hour. Depending on whether you come to the con with a primary goal or listening or playing that can really affect how you place yourself in the various "circles".
Being that I had brought 2 newbies with me that were both listeners, I also had the fun of trying to explain what they were likely to come across in the circles and what to plan for when they were looking for entertainment.
I too usually end up in a circle that doesn't get blogged about - especially by anyone outside of the actual players in the room. I think my favorite circle I was ever in, was about 6-8 of us playing in the hallway outside the restaurant 2 years ago (I think you were there too). It was fun, low pressure, and we had various listeners come and go, and because we were in a walk path I never felt bad, when someone who was listening moved on.
