i was reading my friend lizza c.'s blog and i came across this meme about the songs for every stage of her life. i tried it and the results were a bit apt and a little crazy with some wtf thrown in.
the rules are:
1. open your library on your iPod, Zen or other MP3 player
2. put it on shuffle
3. press play
4. for every question type the song that's playing
5. when you go to a next question, press the next button or you can listen to the song in its entirety
apparently, the following songs are included in the soundtrack of my life:
Opening credits:
"the way you look tonight," by tony bennett
- perfect opening song. love, love this version. the two scenes from "my best friend's wedding" where this song was featured still make me cry. tony b. is the man!
Waking Up:
"summer of '69," by bryan adams
- this song is perfect for a waking up song. bryan adams is one of my early favorite singers and this song (together with "one night love affair") was my most played in his reckless album
Falling In Love:
"when i'm 64," by the beatles
- hehehe! am not really sure what this song is telling me. i just know that my playlist is playing with my mind
Fight Song:
"coconut skins," by damien rice
- damien, mmm. not one of my most played in the "9" album but still rocks and kinda apt too for a fighting song.
Break-Up:
"moody monday," by damien rice
- one of those very few damien songs that's not a fave. i love my damien angry and angsty but this one's just an angry song. but with the following lyrics:
"baby, why'd you have to leave
why'd you have to break free
why'd you have to go"
this hits the spot as a break-up song.
Making Up:
"unplayed piano," by damien rice (again!)
- i swear damien's not the only artist in my playlist but it seems that he really wants to sing in the movie of my life, so what can i do? not a making up song but i love this one all the same. he wrote this song for burma's aung san suu kyi and it's a truly lovely but sad song (as most of his songs are).
Life's Okay:
"consider me gone," by sting
- this one's a weird selection. so not a life's okay song, but it's from one of my fave sting album, so i guess it's okay.
Mental breakdown:
"faithfully," by journey
- this should have been my life's okay song but i guess my playlist is really playing with my mind. maybe i should interchange this with "consider me gone," hmmm...
Driving
"in your eyes," by peter gabriel
- perfect for driving doncha think? i can totally see myself driving my brand new lexus suv (i can dream, can't i?) with peter g.'s "so" album playing on my iPod. having lloyd dobler outside my window with his boombox on his shoulder also wouldn't hurt :)
Flashback:
"raining in baltimore," by counting crows
- don't know what's in baltimore for me. maybe in my previous life i had someone waiting for me there, hmmm...
Happy Dance:
"the animals were gone," by damien rice (4th one!)
- soooo not a happy dance song coz this is such a sad song, but damien really is insistent. i cheated a little to see if i can change my happy dance song to an upbeat song at least, but no such luck. the next song that played was:
- "morning theft," by jeff buckley. i don't get it! two sad, sad songs for my happy dance... oh well, maybe i just have to dance my happy dance to a sad song...
Regret:
"raining on sunday," by keith urban
- hmm, this could really be my regret song coz procrastinator that i am, i can totally hide under the covers all day on a rainy sunday afternoon and not do all the things that i could have done. country is not my cup of tea, but keith urban is a cutie (though a druggie!), so i downloaded some of his songs and they're quite good and not your usual country songs too.
Final Battle:
"homeward bound," by paul simon (with george harrison version)
- oooh, i can actually see this as my final battle song. i remember one time when i have to go home to my hometown after several years of not going home and i hear this song on the bus' radio/tape. it was around 2am and it was one of those times when you wake up from a short but deep sleep and you look out the window and see the trees rushing by and hear this lovely, lovely song. aahh, what a lovely way to wake up. yes, am really homeward bound! and it was one of the nicest feeling ever!
Death scene:
"the pretender," by jackson browne
- love me my jackson browne. this song is what started my sorta obsession with all things jackson b. back in the day. his lyrics are so beautiful and poignant and this one is so full of what might have beens and the perils of just settling in.
"say a prayer for the pretender
who started out so young and strong
only to surrender."
aaawww, this song is going to make me cry on my death scene.
Final Credits:
"walking on memphis," by marc cohn
- can't believe that my final credits song is a homage to the king. am not really an elvis fan, but what the heck, i love this song. and if this is my final credits song, i'll take it with both arms.
so, there you go, the soundtrack of my life. what's yours?
