[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Watch me go.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legal?
No. What an awful thing to want to do to yourself!
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
I am pro choice. I have never understood why people feel it is their right to deny women the rights to their bodies. More than being pro choice, though, I am pro sex education, contraception and general family planning. I truly believe that with an open understanding that sex feels good but has the downside of making babies unless you take these few simple precautions the abortion issue could be calmed down.
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female US president?
I don't see why. Women have held the highest office in many countries. We are severely behind the curve on this issue.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
I'm pretty sure that I will never be able to answer this question. I've tried and tried, but will never be able to see it in black and white terms. When I was younger I suggested that they ask prisoners on death row to volunteer for drug testing, but as I've aged I realized that this was 1. even worse and 2. probably already happening, except without the volunteer bit.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. I find it amazing that there are so few restrictions on alcohol which often does much worse damage. I don't drink or smoke myself, but I understand the desire/need to self medicate. Beyond all else, there are better things to put through the legal system.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
I think that it is a personal choice. For myself, there was no way that I could imagine linking myself to someone for the rest of my life if we were not compatible in as many ways as possible. Others are more willing to take the risk.
[08] Do you believe in God?
No. i believe in religion even less.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes. I also think that domestic partnerships should be seen as a true alternative to "marriage", and that it should hold the same rights. I've known people who never wanted to marry, but were with the same partner for decades. I think it would be wonderful for there to be a simple legal connection which did not carry the same weight as "marriage".
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many immigrants are moving into the country?
No. We all have immigrants somewhere in our family history.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
See my answer to #3. I see no reason that a twelve year old girl should be pregnant. If I had a choice of superpower it would be temporary sterility. Lucky me, I live in a world where temporary sterility can and does exist. I had my cats fixed, and if I had a daughter I would have her well versed on contraception before she was twelve. There are no contraceptive pills for men (yet), but you'd better believe my son will know how to use a condom.
[12] Should the alcohol age be increased to 21?
The drinking age should be decreased to 18. The driving age should also be 18.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
The Iraq war should not have been started, but I don't see a way it could be "called off". I fully expect that there will be US troops there until my child is old and grey. We are still in Europe, Japan, and Korea, and are never far from Vietnam. We own the mess we made.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. I would want to have the choice to end my life well, and I think that everyone should have that option.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
Yes. That said, I have only had to spank my child a few times. There are so many better ways to discipline a child, and it is so easy to show a child the way to be good. I know that spankings are overused, and lose all of their power.
[16] Would you burn your countries flag for a million dollars?
While I would prefer not to be asked to burn the flag, I am not a big fan of idolatry. If you want to discuss disrespecting "The Flag", I suggest you tell people not to put it on so many tee shirts and party favors. Those eventually end up in landfills, or are burnt in trash incinerators. And then there is this:
http://www.funkypair.com/americanbeautyisastarsandstripesromperoutfit.aspx I think I'll leave it at that, though the wedding gown was almost bad enough for a link.
[17] Who do you think would make a better US president? McCain or Obama?
Obama. I think he will be a good step in the right direction.
[18] What is the biggest problem with society that needs to be dealt with?
I think people need to take a long hard look at themselves and realize that they share so many things with the people they most criticize. It would be a huge step towards building respect for others.
[19] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No one will ever judge me as severely as I judge myself. They are my answers.
