My brother just posted this note on his facebook, and half crying, half laughing, i had to share. It's almost a "my sentiments exactly" kind of thing. and i have Bon Iver on, which is enough to make even the darkest of demons stop and touch their faces to see if they're real. enjoy my beautiful niece!
Charlotte loves the President!
When I picked up my daughter, Charlotte, at her daycare center yesterday, Inauguration Day, I was treated to one of the purest forms of sheer joy and elation that any child can experience.
The lady who runs the daycare is a big Obama supporter. She has signs up all over the house and makes no qualms about her support. Her opinions are very clear. Anyway, when I walked in I immediately noticed that one of the other little boys was wearing an Obama t-shirt. So I commented, “Charlie… I like your t-shirt!” He responded with a resounding cheer of “OBAMA!!!” To which, the rest of the kids at the daycare all joined in with hands in the air… “OBAMA!!!! YAY OBAMA!!!!” I laughed and looked to our daycare provider quizzically asking her what I had done or what I had started with my comment about Charlie’s t-shirt. She told me that she had all 8 of the kids sitting around the tiny 13” TV in the kitchen so that they could all watch history happen. Mind you, the oldest of these kids is just 3, and the youngest is about 5 months old. So, they’re all pretty young with Charlotte just having passed her 2nd birthday a month ago. Alicia told me that all of the kids got very excited feeding off of her excitement and all cheered when she did and clapped and were generally excited as the events unfolded. Well, as President Obama was officially sworn in and the crowd cheered loudly (led in the daycare by Alicia) all of the kids responded with a hearty “OBAMA!!!” and were elated with excitement. To which, my daughter chimes in with her own cheer of “SANTA CLAUS!!!”
It was just such a hysterically funny and happy moment of pure joy. She was so wrapped up in the whoop-la of the whole event that she wanted to participate with the most exciting thing she could possibly think of. And what better figure is there for a 2 year-old than the blessed Santa Claus?
So, President Obama… you have my daughter’s attention. Don’t let her down. You’re on par with Santa Claus. And not even Daddy rates that high.
