i have come to a conclusion:
the polyophonic spree, the worst, most cultish music 'act' EVER, are out to kidnap tim k.
okay, okay. why would they kidnap some whiney, emo, drunk?
because they want conor oberst to join b/c he has many rapid fans who would then follow them and join their evil cult of psychedelic-ness.
well, conor would only join if tim k. did since he idolizes him and not-so-secretly-as-he-thinks wants to become him, which i don't really understand, but hey, it's his life [c'mon, the beard...coincidence? i think not.]
so to get conor to join they must kidnap timmy k.
