Too late to say sorry - Part 10

Rosie stood on the cold tarmac, wind blowing her hair, she looked in both directions, nothing, no Sian how could she tell her seriously ill sister that Sian had gone. Trying to stifle her own anger at Sian’s exit and emotions of Sophie’s condition she walked back in to the building, had she walked a little further down the hospital car park then she would have seen Sian sat rocking back and forth on a bench crying, as it was Rosie had to tell her sister that Sian had gone.

Rosie headed back towards Sophie’s room, even from a few metres away she could hear Sophie highly anxious calling Sian’s name, she took a deep breathe and entered the room, Sophie looked at her and without saying a word Sophie’s heart broke. “It’s my fault, how could I push her away, how could I forget the only person I have ever loved” Sally rubbed her back gently “She’ll be back, trust me Soph, she’ll be back” Sally said trying to reassure her. “I’m sorry I couldn’t find her Soph, but she’ll be back, you need to concentrate getting better” Rosie said.

Sophie sank back in to the pillow defeated. “Go”. The women looked at each other, “Soph” Sally said, “Just go, you never wanted me to be with Sian, well congratulations you get your wish, leave now” Sophie cried. Sally kissed her daughters forehead “I’ll be here”, she said walking out of the doors. Rosie glared at her sister, “You’re right it is your fault, pushing Sian away, drinking and falling off a roof, we have been worried sick, Sian was here the whole time and you can’t even be bothered to remember her” Rosie yelled. “Wallow in self pity, but Sian won’t come back, not unless you stop being a selfish bitch”.

Rosie hadn’t mean the acidic tone, but she was frustrated at her sister she turned her back trying to regain her composure, “I want Sian” Sophie cried “I..I need.. I love h..” she began to say before she stopped talking. Rosie span back round, “Soph” she asked her sister’s eyes closed, suddenly she her eyes locked on the heart rate monitor, a flat line appeared and beeping echoed through the room. “Sophie!” Rosie screamed as doctors and nurses filled the room.

Sian had caught the bus back to Coronation Street, she wasn’t sure why she felt that being in Sophie’s surroundings would help her feel close to her somehow. The noise from the pub drew her nearer, well lack of noise, she could hear talking but no music, she gently pushed open the door. “Any news on Sophie?” Becky asked, all eyes turned to Jason, as Rosie’s boyfriend he was sure to know more than anyone “No, just that she’s come round and is talking”. Rita spoke next “That’s a relief eh love, give her our love” Jason nodded suddenly his phone burst in to life, “Rosie, what, oh god where is she now? Okay no I haven’t seen Sian, okay if I see her I’ll tell her, okay, just …okay, yeah love you too”.

Jason turned back round “Well any news?” Norris said nosily, Jason leant over the bar and whispered to Tina, who, whispered to Becky, suddenly the pub went quiet. “Rosie just phoned” she began “It appears that Sophie’s taken a turn for the worse, it’s not looking good she’s now been put on a life support machine”. Anna stood up “What happened is she alive?” Becky nodded, “At the moment yeah, her heart stopped again, very sudden, Sian’s missing we need to find her before it’s too late, lets say a prayer and then start looking”. Everyone bowed their heads as Sian absorbed the gravity of the situation.

“Well god works in mysterious ways” Norris said sipping his drink, “What the hell does that mean?” Tina yelled across the pub, “Just that Sophie and Sian’s relationship is wrong and may be god wants to show whose in charge” he mumbled. Tina was fuming, she liked Sophie and Sian, as did Sunita who spoke next “Don’t talk rubbish, Sophie and Sian are the most honest and loving couple that I have ever met, they are young and in love, I for one am going to search for Sian, keep your horrible opinions to yourself”. Sunita received a round of applause from other people in the pub.

“Right” Becky began to say “I want some of ya to check the Webster’s, the taxi office, we need people to check the park or anywhere Sian may have gone”, just then Norris opened his mouth again to the distain of other patrons “I’ll stay here, all I was saying is that may be Sophie’s accident was meant to be” Tina threw a bar towel at him “Shut up or you’ll get barred” she said frustrated at the homophobia that she was hearing. “I’m entitled to my own opinion, anyway Sian probably realised that she was committing a sin so left Sophie, I mean none of us know do we” he muttered, suddenly a loud scream and a glass shattering broke the quiet in the room.
